But as yet i have absolutely no desire to eat a scheeze pizza or whatever they are. And as for veggi-meat products i don't actually like the idea of eating a product that is trying to emulate meat in presentation or taste but i eat tofu for protein value etc Some people also were talking about the perception of veganism as extreme, i must admit - at first even as a vegetarian i thought it was quite extreme untill a long time ago i met a friends older brother who was a vegan and made a lot of sense, when i told my family i was going vegan, my dad's exact word s were; " och, yur no becomin a mad extremist are ye? " Having said this though, there is an element that could certainly be labelled as extremist - although i must admit on a personal level it was this " crusty punk-type " element and songs like " Meat means Murder " by Conflict that got me involved in the first place. Just something to think about, Cheers. Ewan -

Guest guest
i love my vegan cheese. i like to eat it on sandwhiches with fake sandwhich meat. and grilled cheese sandwhiches. and mac and chreeze or wahtever its called. yeah i think its odd that i protest the eating o meat and then i turn around and eat soemthing that emulates it... but its soemthing to eat. and it makes me feel like jsut because iw ent vegan doesnt mean i actualyl had to *change* anything about my diet. my parents seem to think that being vegan entails only being allowed to eat horrendous foods. (example: they just ordered me a box of pumpkin puree. i know they mean well but YUCK. anyone on this list who lieks pumpkin puree, please allow me to get rid of it, youll be my best friend) spiggs -- Priscilla Pelkey spiggy - email (210) 576-2701 x5770 - voicemail/fax ---- " Ewan " <subvert_normality wrote: [Non text/plain message body suppressed] FREE voicemail, email, and fax...all in one place. They're yummy and quick to have with a salad if I can't be bothered cooking. But my favourite restarant, The White Lotus, is totally vegan and most of it's menu is fake meats. Their vegetarian fish is delissssssshhhhus!!!! :-) They do it in a sweet and sour sauce with pineapple. They also do a dish called the " Nest " which is a noodle basket on a bed of crisp lettuce, filled with steamed vegetables in a light sauce, and with vegetarian " prawns " and with cashews. Yummmmo! If that's extreme, then I'm honored if someone will call me that! Guest guest
In all honesty, I don't think being vegan is extreme, It's just the rest of the world is far too slow with this realisation, and think it is not valid, or it doesn't matter, even though science proves time and time again the benefits for health, and not only that, in mind it improves you many times over, because you can distance yourself from bloodshed and hideous hyprocrisy of the rest of the people you know. vegan-network, Leanne Daharja Veitch <daharja@b...> wrote: > > > Ewan wrote: > > > Some people also were talking about the perception of veganism as > > extreme, i > > must admit - at first even as a vegetarian i thought it was quite > > extreme > > untill a long time ago i met a friends older brother who was a vegan > > and > > made a lot of sense, when i told my family i was going vegan, my dad's > > exact > > word s were; " och, yur no becomin a mad extremist are ye? Guest guest
OK, you may not like this, but to tell you the truth, I was an absolute carnivore before I went on/off vegetarian and then vegan. I loved meat...and although now I'd spit out anything that tastes like meat (and then I'd immediately check what the heck was really in it), the idea of eating foods that attempt to imitate meat doesn't bother me... It's not weird that it bothers people (more like, it should bother vegans!) but when you live in a household of carnivores (I just sat through a dinner with my family devouring their lamb chops...I just have to pretend I don't see them, all I see is my plate of veggies!), you see meat so often that you just have a feel of what is real meat and what isn't...the fake stuff just doesn't give off that stench! And the thing that I try to get across to meat-lovers is that if they eat meat (or kill) for taste, let they be assured that plant alternatives can achieve a similar, but far less gruesome, effect. When I go out with my friends (all meat-eaters), I take them to vegetarian restaurants (veganism is not quite heard of in Hong Kong except by the small number of us in the Vegan Society) and I order vegan meats that are obviously made from gluten or mushrooms but taste superb! Then I go, " Great meal, eh? You can still enjoy food that satisfies your desire for " meat " without harming non-human animals. What's so hard with being vegan? Guest guest
i agree and i also grew up in a household where we ate meat 8 meals a day...everything had some sort of flesh in it... then, i stopped eating fast food, and just said screw it one day..went veggie i like the fake meats..i like the texture..and some of those mushroom dishes tht can be made..oh my!!! *drools* i always get " well, if you don't eat meat, why are you eating a fake burger/hotdog/sausage etc, brocoli doesn't look like that " and my answer is " yeah, cows don't look like burgers either " fraggle " Honor Chan " <honor_chan wrote: >OK, you may not like this, but to tell you the truth, I was an absolute >carnivore before I went on/off vegetarian and then vegan.
