Guest guest
You make a good point here, Dee, about potentially 'lowering the bar' for people who will try to slip things in on account of the fact that you've tolerated other animal products in the past. Certainly for me, with family/friends I am 100% committed to not tolerating animal produce. I expect these people to understand my choice and act accordingly if they intend to feed me, in the same way they should if I had a nut allergy. As these are the only people who are likely to cook for me on a repeat basis it's not really a problem. I remember a while ago buying some vegetarian soup which I'd scanned the label of for dairy but somehow didn't see it contained milk until I'd opened it, then I had the choice of pouring food that was 99% or more vegan down the sink or just eating it. I ate it of course. Obviously I'm more careful scanning labels now :-) In a restaurant situation, well for instance yesterday I was in Paris and was served (as part of their vegetarian maki meal), soup containing chicken stock! After tasting it (I had expected it to be Miso soup) I asked for them to take it back and was given another salad in its place. I was happy with this.
