Guest guest
hi honor, i love your mails to the vegan list, thanks for coming onboard. there are realy funny and *so* vegan, they are perfect. it is strange that where ever we are on the planet we still go through the same things and come up with the same responses. ever feel like an alien who has landed on the wrong planet or be sent down to save them? i would say that you are doing more than most so do not worry about splitting hairs. it is the intention in our actions that matter most. if stuff was bought before you were switched on, dont worry about it. personally, i am of the use it until it breaks or wears out school as new goods are less environmental than old ones. in fact we had an interesting discussion here a while back about what is the most environmentally friendly, leather [ as part of a natural re-cycling process which of couse it isnt all at present ] or man made [ plastic ]. natural leather and crepe won. personally, i have to admit favouring it over plastics - if it is part of the natural cycle - and would not mind the thought of being recycled myself. unfortunately we have this hoary old demon of capitalist hanging over us as well, and everything becomes a business - which is where it all goes wrong. and recently i was using an old sheep skin hat that was going to be thrown out of a house. an old couple that had lived there and passed away had bought it 20 years ago. it was really cold and i had no other, it seemed to innocent enough a thing to do. of course, i realised that my me wearing it may be others would see it and want to have one lke that as well. and then ih ad to question whether it was right. my intention was clear but what about my example? this dichotomy is a classic philosophical conflict. in buddhism you could think about it as the old boddhisatva versus bodhidharma argument; is it better to be pure shining example unreachable above the people, or are you better to me in the dirt amongst them trying to do little bits of good to help them up. there is no " right one " in this. both paths are valid. and rest assured that anyone that criticised you is on neither. just out of interest, how do you get along with hotmail address? do you know get loads of spam in your inbox? john
