Guest guest
Hi all, Right I know this sounds really strange, but if your having problems with mice, one sure fire way to get rid of them is with the help of Gerbils. I used to keep pet gerbils ( I rescued them from a nearby school who didn't want them anymore) and with frequent handling they become very tame. Anyway when they became tame my gerbils were allowed to roam around the house freely (when there was someone at home to gerbil-sit) and when they became tired they would go back to their cage, which was placed in one area of my bedroom. I eventually left home taking the gerbils with me and shortly afterwards my parents complained that the house was now teaming with the local mouse population. They tried everything ( vegan friendly of course - I wouldn't let them try anything else) to rid their house but nothing worked. So one weekend I came home bringing the gerbils with me, and of course they knew the layout of the house so I let them out to play. Well naturally gerbils are very territorial animals and they go mad if they think another gerbil is in their territory, and they are even worse when it comes to mice. My gerbils picked up the scent of the mice straight away and went straight for their nests - I only know this because we could hear the fighting and back leg strumming from my gerbils. Gerbils will fight to the death, but because they are bigger then mice, the mice just gave up and left, we could hear them being chased out from under the floorboards, the whole thing lasted about 20 minutes. Now obviously I was worried about my gerbils dying, getting injured or picking up a disease but my guys came out without a scratch on them and as far as we know no mice died in their little adventure. That was 2 years ago and no mice have ever come back - so the gerbils seemed to have worked. I just thought I 'd mention it Take care Sonia
