On the same theme, also watch out for biryanis which can have yoghurt in the

rice. Also some restaurants will use mainly vegetable ghee, but will use butter

for a few dishes, usually (I've found) sag bhajee or sag aloo (I guess they

think spinach needs an extra kick).

 

On a different cultural note, I made it to Peking Palace recently, the new

veggie Chinese place in Archway (N London) and despite being quite used to

Chinese fake meats I must admit that the meal was occasionally scary (eg King

Prawns!). But the food was good and almost everything was vegan, although I

think some of the dishes have honey in them. The best bits for me were the

starters and the beancurd.

 

Anyway, it's not cheap, but try it if you're brave enough.

Come to think about it, breads all round are one to watch; butter and eggs

in naan too.
