Guest guest
Vegans have to look out for their Calcium, Iron, B12, and Iodine. So it could well be Calcium. charlie_elise wrote: > > > bad teeth : > oh god I really hope it's not the fruit...no way, it can't be fruit, > can it?? although it could be the fruit juice.... > > Okay, help me here-my teeth have started falling apart-I had great > teeth but they ain't so great now-is it just sugar or can it be > calcium defincincy as well? Guest guest
why would a vegan have to watch any of those except B12 mr ian sir?? all are readily available in a balanced vegan diet Dr Ian McDonald <ian wrote: > >Vegans have to look out for their Calcium, Iron, B12, and Iodine. You need a balanced diet. Actually, Vanessa brought iodine to our attention fairly recently. Guest guest
ISTR Americans get iodised salt or something, but Brits don't. Anyway, there's a fact sheet on vegansociety.com. I'm no expert, I'm pretty much repeating what Vanessa said. Guest guest
yeah, all our " major " salts come iodized...and my shaker of sea salt sez it contains iodine... its pretty rare to get a goiter in this neck of the woods(get it..neck...goiter..oh, never mind..i didn't even mean it as a pun when i wrote it) thought most salts were iodinized...hmmmm.guess not just like they add flouride to our water i guess fraggle Dr Ian McDonald <ian wrote: >ISTR Americans get iodised salt or something, but Brits don't. Guest guest
I am a supporter of the Vegan Society, but I have noticed an error or two in their fact sheets. B12, for instance, is available in some sea vegetables. Thus, it's possible for a vegan to get it without having to take a B12 supplement. xxk@xx Dr Ian McDonald [ian] 16 February 2002 00:00 vegan-network Re: [100% veg*n ] toothless ISTR Americans get iodised salt or something, but Brits don't. Guest guest
ISTR the fact sheets don't claim that you can't get it through unfortified vegan foods. They claim that they don't know of anyone getting enough from unfortified vegan foods. Guest guest
B12 use to be pretty easy to get in our ancestors diets..plants would pull it up and then we'd eat the plants...not to mention dung was spread as fertilizer...simple enough...but, with the advent of modern agriculture and the reliance of chemical fertilizers, b12 vanished from the soils... so, i'm wondering...if you garden organically, and have been for awhile, will the soil come back, and how long will it take?? so..will i start to get the jitters soon, after 8 or so yrs of veganism, since i don't take a b12 supplement...and only rarely have soymilk nowadays or, will i be happy and well with my suishi questions questions fraggle
