Guest guest
Greenpeace, GE Free Markets Coalition Announce 2002 Supermarket Campaign Targets! Since the November 2001 victory in which Trader Joe's agreed to use non-GMO ingredients in its store brand products, we have heard from thousands of you with suggestions on what supermarket chain we should focus on next. Your votes are in! After getting responses from the company letters you sent us and researching the companies, our 2002 supermarket campaign will focus on two chains, Safeway and Shaw's / Star Market. Why these two supermarkets? ** Safeway ** The third largest food retailer has refused to meet with Greenpeace to discuss how to source non-GMO food ingredients in its store brands while claiming to care about their environmental record. Safeway owns Vons, Genuardi's, Dominick's, Carr's, Randalls Pavilions, Tom Thumb and Pak'n Save Foods. Find out more about Safeway and what you can do: http://www.truefoodnow.org/take_action/supermarket2002.html#safeway ** Shaw's/Star market ** This New England chain is owned by Sainsbury's markets in the UK. Sainsbury's does not use GE ingredients in their products sold in Britain, yet they continue to use GE food in their U.S. products. Want to help end this double-standard? Find out more: http://www.truefoodnow.org/take_action/supermarket2002.html#shaws Take Action! Send a letter to Safeway and Shaw's asking them to commit to using non-GMO ingredients in their store brands: http://www.truefoodnow.org/bin/takeaction.fpl?action_id=114 Members of the GE Free market Coalition will also lend support for several regional supermarket campaigns. They include: A & P Markets (also known as Food Emporium) Publix Food Lion Greenpeace, True Food Network activists and the members of the GE Free Markets Coalition will demand that these stores remove genetically engineered food from their store brand products.
