They're just nice middle class kids being different for a while, how many of them will be into the next big thing in a few years time?. They're so passive and take shit from everyone, its embarassing watching them standing huddled down the front of the bus for fear of being near a ned, when i was their age (i got into punk aged 13 around 1995) and walked around with a big mohawk and weird clothes we had to defend ourselves constantly. They got it easy - safety in numbers! And since this neo-Goth explosion i've had to put up with several of my trad goth friends rattling on about how real goths only listen to Bauhaus, Suspiria, The Cult or whatever, drives me spare. Ewan. PS I aint even gonna start on bands like Blink for fear of sounding like a jaded old preacher punk, even tho i'm only 20.

Guest guest
We as vegans are also very discriminated against. People think we are weirdoes, and recently found out that we are also hypocrites. The meat eaters just don't seem to understand just why we live the way we do, it's not just a diet, but a whole philosophy and lifestyle. Some of them are very disrespectful to us and don't even realize it. For example, my friend James and his wife (ugh!) both know my boyfriend and I are both vegan and they invited us to small dinner party, just the four of us. Well everything was going great, they made some scrumptious vegan dishes, but what did they sit down and eat right infront of us... big fat slabs of animal carcass. It was sickening! But because they are, well he is anyway, our friend, we just smiled and didn't say anything. But they didn't think anything of it. They didn't think we would mind because we were eating non-flesh, but watching them gorge themselves on a dead cow went against everything we believe on every level. So how do you deal with something like that? I thought it was very rude, my boyfriend on the other hand have them benefit of ignorance. I admit that I am a bit " prejudice " against meat eaters and I guess I'm something of a VegaNazi. Meat eaters have a certain " odor " about them, their color is bad, and display some traits that we as vegans don't. Their whole outlook of the world is much different those of us who live a vegan life, even from simple things like not wanting to sit on a leather sofa, to not wanting to wash your hands in their house because you don't know if the soap is " cruelty free " . How so we as vegans and animal rights activists deal with these things? Peace, -KosmicTyger http://www.kosmictyger.com " I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul... Guest guest
.. it's funny cos i see all these young kids (12 year olds) wearing blink 182, korn and stuff and think it's funny, but then i think about what it was like when i was a young punk (and not vegetarian). it's just things we go through i guesss. i'm sure some of them will stay liking punk (or whatever it is) andd hopefully progress, as we did....RAT...... it all goes in cycles... and, dunno about england , but, recently here, punk " got trendy " again, with green day and blink and all that(not my cup of tea, sorry, tho billy joe and mike are nice guys, just not into their band)...and you get lotsa kids just into it because they heard it on MTV or somesuch... *shrugs* i guess ya can look at it that now ya got a lot more people to open their eyes to other things, like veganism and such... fraggle " k@ " <kittyveg wrote: > >ha, this is one of my gripes. i first got into punk in the late 70's, >pistols, that sort of stuff, then crass, conflict, even 82 punk like >abrasive wheels, blitz, demob etc etc. i became vegetarian in 1983, vegan in >84. i got to know a lot of anarcho punks, all of which were at least >vegetarian. i got involved in direct action, demos, sabbing. by the early >90's punk/hardcore appeared to be losing the spark it had back in the early >80's, the vast majority of people in punk/hardcore no longer seemed to care. >unfortunatly, this still seems to be the case today. we played a festival in >belgium 4 or 5 years back. i got called into the bar/food area to get our >free food. i walked in and was like " what the fuck is that smell, it's >fuckin chicken!! Yea, I share more affinity with the bible-bashers and religious buffs at my college than others, even though I don't believe in monotheism. The reason being they are the only other group as a far as i know who believe in anything or abide by any guidelines. I only believe that its wrong to be cruel, and my guidelines are a vegan diet and lifestyle. we as vegans are only considered as wierdos because we live in a meat eating dominated society > Some of them are very disrespectful to us and don't even realize it. Well everything was going great, they made some scrumptious vegan dishes, but what did they sit down and eat right infront of us... big fat slabs of animal carcass. They often don't realise how sickening it can be, because its normal to them and they don't associate " steak " , " porc " " ham " etc with dead animals, thats why they have such names for them. >It was sickening! But because they are, well he is anyway, our >friend, we just smiled and didn't say anything. It must have been really difficult to bear. Since I've been vegan I have lost contact with many of my old meat eating friends, and the ones who I am still friends with I have made sure over time that they know exactly where I stand with regards to meat. Often it we just make a joke of it, it may not be morally right to do so but at least in a jocular atmosophere I can say what I think without it causing too much disdain. >But they didn't think anything of it. How so >we as vegans and animal rights activists deal with these things? Its very difficult to deal with, and very easy to become prejudiced. I sometimes get worried that I'm being too extremist when my emotions get too high about people eating meat. But recently I have just transformed everything I think and feel about meat-eaters into pity. I pity the fact that they have to resort to killing to enjoy their food; the bad complexions; the willingness to ignore the grim facts; the fact that you are what you eat and these people are eating tortured prisoners which have no freedom or choice of their own fate; and above all I pity the animals; and this drives me to do what I can, even preach sometimes to open peoples eyes a bit more, even if it hurts them or means they don't think much of me. But ultimately there's not much i can do, Jules > > Peace, > -KosmicTyger > http://www.kosmictyger.com > > " I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul...
