Guest guest
im conforming, but ill have to copy and paste... note: i am not criticising this email at all, i agree wholeheartedly! just wanted to add some comments, see if i can clear some things up. " all that I've written in my responses are things that I would NEVER say or suggest to non-vegans. Simply because, more often than not, many non-vegans take veganism as a personal attack. My family is carnivorous, my friends maybe eat one carrot a month as their maximum vegetable intake and, no, I don't shove veganism into their face because I know it would backfire. " i agree. i mean, ive converted many of my friends, but because they are m friends they are interested in why im not eating the same things they are, why i have a carton of soy milk on my tray instead of regular milk in a glass... etc... maybe my friends are more curious, but they asked, i answered, and most of them either became veggie or vegan. guess i must be prety good at this whole vegan advocation thing... i would never accost random people, ask them if they eat meat, then degrade them for it! i advocate animal rights by more subtle and less annoying ways. shur i might not always want to talk to people who eat meat, but maybe i failed to mention, IM FROM TEXAS. the beef capitol of the world. its very easy to be annoyed with meat-eaters in texas. but instead of becomming a hermit, i organised a group of like minded individuals and we tabled at my university's union. we did this year round and we never forced people to come talk to us. i LOVE converting people, id love to convert the whole world, but i know its unrealistic. " As far as food goes, I never give the people at the table a lecture about the cruelty of the meat industry - it's pointless, all that would do is turn people off and give them a bad impression on vegans " i have lectured at the table before, but only when provoked. and never with my friends! if people ask a question, i answer it. if people provoke me, im going to explain to them why i think vegan is the right thing to do. " my mom LOVES fur - she comes home with bags full of fur jackets every winter and admires herself in the mirror with the skin wrapped around her. She still asks me how she looks and I tell her, " You look good, mom. " " good for you! personally fur gives me the creeps. and my parents are closed minded about the vegan thing. i totally agree with you that its pointless to lecgture people who dont want to hear. i just wish my parents would stop lecturing ME about why veganism is bad. they know its not going to change my mind. i also wish they would stop spiking my food with animal products, cos it makes me phsycially ill. i believe that falls under FORCING their beliefs on me, and i think its sad. " MY vegan foods always have meat as close neighbors and the stink of meat is unbearable. " =[ same goes for me in a flat with 5 other meat-eaters. we recently got a new flatmate. she asks me questions about vegetarianism, and when im done answering she says 'well i dont care anyway cos im not vegetarian'. what the point in asking then? i much prefer living by myself with my pans that only i have cooked with, a fridge that only contains animal friendly foods... but as thats not likely to happen for a while, i have to just deal with it (but i dont have to LIKE dealing with it, which has been my whole point in this little stint) " What I'm trying to say is this: I only wrote what I wrote because I thought it 'safe' for me express my true feelings here. So...I was quite shocked to get the responses that I got... " DEFINITELY. i know my first email that caused all this was a bit harsh on our meat-eating human counterparts... i even dabated putting a little disclaimer at the end explaining that id been kept up all night by the drunken heathens downstairs banging on the walls until 4 in the morning. and ever since one of my flatmates broke her leg, i get phonecalls from her (even tho the walls are so thin i can hear her talking ANYWAY) asking me to do this that and the other for her. not exactly an atmosphere conducive to sanity if you ask me. spiggy FREE voicemail, email, and fax...all in one place.
