March 11th-17th: National Supermarket Campaign Launch Week

Many of you have sent us e-mail asking how you can get involved

in the Greenpeace campaign to kick genetically engineered foods

off the supermarket shelves. Below is a list of things you and

your friends can do this week to join in this national effort.

- Leaflet -

Download leaflets and petitions to pass out at a supermarket in

your area.

(You'll need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader for the .pdf files)

Talking with shoppers about genetically engineered food and encouraging

them to sign a petition or talk to their store manager is a great way

to help start the campaign.

Send us your completed petitions (our address is at the bottom of the petition).

Get Safeway or Shaw's/Star Market petitions:

http://www.truefoodnow.org/take_action/supermarket2002.html#petition

Get Safeway or Shaw's factsheets:

http://www.truefoodnow.org/take_action/supermarket2002.html#factsheets

- Petition -

If you can't get in front of a supermarket this week to pass

out information and gather petition signatures, then pass around the

petition to friends and family.

- Talk with your store manager -

It's important for local store managers to hear from their customers

about GE foods. Call or go by your local supermarket and ask to speak

to the manager.

Tell managers at your local store why you are concerned about GE food

and ask them to remove GE ingredients from their products. Our activist kit

has tips on meeting with your manager.

- Take action online -

Send a letter to a supermarket CEO this week!

Ask Safeway and Shaw's To Eliminate GE Ingredients In Store Brands

http://www.truefoodnow.org/bin/takeaction.fpl?action_id=114

Don't have a Safeway or Shaw's/Star Market in your area? Send a

letter to the CEO of one of the top 10 U.S. supermarkets!

- Grow the True Food Network -

Encourage your friends and family to join the True Food Network!

The more people who demand safe, sustainably grown food and an end

to GE food, the faster the U.S. will end this genetic experiment

with our food supply.

Pass this e-mail on to friends and encourage them to join this

free, national network of concerned consumers.

About the 2002 Supermarket Campaign:

For the supermarket campaign Greenpeace and the members of the

GE-Free Markets Coalition will be targeting Safeway (which also

owns Vons, Domincks, Carr's, Randalls and Genuardi's),

Shaw's/Star Markets in New England, A & P (Food Emporium), Publix

and Food Lion.

All of these chains have refused to remove GE ingredients from

their products. Food Lion, A & P and Shaw's/Star Market are

owned by European companies that have already stopped using

GE foods in their products sold in Europe, but not in stores in

the U.S.

Tell these stores to stop their use of genetically engineered

food. If your store not listed here, download our supermarket

activist kit to find out what you can do in your area!
