I think I'd avoid taking medicine if at all possible - currently there's nothing wrong with me, so that's easy. The only thing that I used to take now and again were painkillers for headaches, but massage is better anyway I'm not sure what I'd do if I was really ill... I suppose it depends how much alternative/complimentary medicine can do for you, and whether you would be willing to suffer or die rather than use animal products or those tested on animals. I'd be very unhappy about it, but I'm not sure whether I'd be able to refuse medicine in a real life or death situation. Would people here rather die than use animal or animal tested products? Joel. Guest guest
Spig... There are synthetic forms of proestrogen. Humulin (sp?) is the form of insulin which is not animal-derived. It's been around for yonks and is quite common. In fact, all of the feline diabetics that I've known have used Humulin. xxk@xx Priscilla Pelkey [pink_felixxx] 25 April 2002 16:50 vegan-network [100% veg*n ] medications i was just wondering how everyone feels about meds and stuff. im currently taking 4 steroids (thats right, 4) that were undoubtedly tested on animals, but without them i wouldnt last a week. it made me start wondering... what would a vegan diabetic do???? have they come out with an alternative to pig insulin? and waht about projesterone (birth control)?? do they still get that from horses? spiggy Games - play chess, backgammon, pool and more http://games./ To to the Digest Mode [ recommended ], send an email to: vegan-network-digest
Guest guest
there are different medications for different levels of diabetes i'm sure most of them are at the very least tested on aniamsl, if not coming directly from animals i had to take some anti-biotics a few weeks ago, and rasied a stink and refused to lieave until they found me some that were covered in gelatin..lucky fer me, they had some... its a tricky question... Guest guest
i think until docs and scientist start making meds that aren't made from or tested on animals...then we're just gonna have to go with it...and keep asking for it... cuz i mean.... you wouldn't wanna die...right? well.... i dunno...why does the world suck so much? casey >Priscilla Pelkey <pink_felixxx >vegan-network >vegan-network >[100% veg*n ] medications >Thu, 25 Apr 2002 08:49:33 -0700 (PDT) > >i was just wondering how everyone feels about meds and >stuff. im currently taking 4 steroids (thats right, 4) >that were undoubtedly tested on animals, but without >them i wouldnt last a week. it made me start >wondering... what would a vegan diabetic do???? have >they come out with an alternative to pig insulin? and >waht about projesterone (birth control)?? do they >still get that from horses? >spiggy > > > > Games - play chess, backgammon, pool and more >http://games./ _______________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. Guest guest
> Would people here rather die than use animal or > animal tested products? > it depends on the situation. for beauty and asthetics, i refuse to use such products, there's no need for it. regarding medicine however, things are different. there are no drugs available at all that have not been tested on animals, it is a necessary part of creating drugs to test them or else a licence will not be granted for the drug. if the drug contains animal products and there are alternatives available i will always attempt to use the alternative. but if it is a life or death situation then i will take the drug. i currently have to take medication or indirectly i will probably die and the chances are i'll need to take the medication all my life, but i would rather live than not take it. such a tiny campaign will do nothing to stop the use of animals in medications and your life could be better used to try and help the situation actively than by dying. incidentally whilst i'm on the topic i have it from a very reliable source that the gelatin used to coat capsules is almost always seaweed derived and not from bones as its a much cheaper method. sarah
