Guest guest
Michael ( & any vegans in Hull), Is it you who live in Hull? I just remember someone i wrote to quite a while ago on this list that lives in Hull! If it's you, you told me about Hitchcocks restaurant! The reason why i'm asking is because I've actually have been there now and am planning to go again with some of the vegans here in Leeds to join in with Hulls vegans on Saturday night! It's an absolutely FAB restaurant, the best I've ever been to I must say! Are you going there with Hull vegans or are there anyone else here from Hull who's going? Guest guest
Hi Sandra, Yes it was me that recommenced Hitchcock's. Glad you like it, I haven't been for a while, I've planned to at the last minute on a few occasions but they've always been fully booked. The only other vegan place in the city is a small veggie cafe halfway between the centre and the uni but I think Hitchock's certainly makes up for the lack of competition. I'm not going to be there on Saturday, I'm really busy at the moment. To be honest I didn't even know there was a Hull vegan group, although I once heard rumours about one, only Hull Veggie's - they normally meet there once a month, usually midweek but I'm not a member of them though either. Let me know if you ever go again though as I'll have a lot more time in a few weeks, and going there more often will definitely be on my plans. Incidentally what's the theme for Saturday? Guest guest
Woohoo, I've just received a phone call telling me I'm going to Hitchcock's tonight. Luckily I have some wine in the refrigerator. Tonight's theme is North and South American, haven't had that before and can't even begin to imagine what it would be. I suppose there'd be some Mexican, hopefully with cheese being optional. Guest guest
>Wish i lived nearer now so I could have come! How was it? Please let me know >what North & South America had to offer, that sounds interesting! The starter was tortilla's (and lots of them) with guacamole and salsa. I guess they must have offered cheese or sour cream as well to vegetarians as they checked we were vegan first. They had taco's with cheese and quorn burgers but otherwise all the main courses were vegan. In fact when I got back to our table apparently they'd made us some cheese-less taco's anyway! As well as various salad bits, including some very hot chillis that looked like radishes, there were sweet potato wedges, an interesting bowl of seasoned corn, various chilli type dishes including a black bean chilli that was really nice, fries, a spinach dish (the only one I didn't have, but my plate was so full), and a flat wrap type bread with a guacamole type filling. I'm sure there were more but I can't remember them now. It was the emptiest I've ever seen the place though, the big table opposite the bar (going towards the toilets) wasn't used at all. Luckily it meant that we could get our 'usual' table which is the high one opposite the long table, with the picture of a clown on the wall behind it. Was nice to try a new theme, although it would have been fairer called US & Mexico. Michael
Guest guest
Hello Michael, Thanks for sharing your Hitchcock experience, sounded brilliant! Some of the dishes you mentioned were there when I was there last too, like the sweet potato wedges, spiced sweetcorn and spinach. The puddings are also always veeeeeeeeeeeeeeery nice! People always look twice on my plate when I've been up taking..............hmmm, guess it usually looks a bit too much for my belly...........! But I always surprise them with eating it all up, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! Nicy, nicy, nicy!!! Hope to go there soon again, will let you know when it'll be when I know! Maybe we could meet up there?? Whatever happened to your Leeds trip? You were going to go to check the health shops ages ago, weren't you? Guest guest
Hi Sandra, Get in touch when you are next able to visit and I'll see if we can meet up. I've only had one bad experience in Hitchcock's - Italian, but that was only because I don't like garlicy foods, or pasta. I have only been to Leeds once, unplanned by chance, and so checked out Beano's and it was quite good. Since I last mentioned going there, though, a local organic store around the corner from me reopened and so I can get a lot of stuff there without having to go to York, like I used to, or Leeds. Guest guest
Hi Sandra, Short notice! Tomorrow's not good I'm afraid, my partner works late on Thursdays, and we have just (last night) gotten back from a holiday (Belgium - a few good restaurants but the lack of even vegetarian options on a lot of menus was quite surprising) so want to have a bit of a rest! Besides I don't really like Italian food (either garlic or pasta) and I fear there would be a lot of garlic. When they had an Italian theme was the only bad night I've had in Hitchcock's.
