Me too, and boy can you imagine the protests this idea would bring? There's even one group on the net, " consumer freedom " or something, and they support junk food ads ins chools, and basically the right of people do do what they want...... obviously missing the idea of goals like health (but not missing the other side's goal of $) In my distict in the US, PA, Coke or Pepsi, one of them have gottena deal with our school's to put soda machines on every floor of the schools, and on the poutside of them by playgrounds. So, now, these kids can get 30% of the recommended calories from just 1 bottle of soda, while getting zero vitamins and minerals (the school board who approved this is forgetting that money is not the goal of school, but is a tool to reach the real goal of education (while not harming the students) I think people should pay different taxes based on their pollution and use of services. People who eat unhealthfully and use more of the medical services offered partially by taxpayers should pay more. People who drive vehicles that use 12 mpg should pay more in road taxes. Hmm, actually maybe the idea would have more acceptance if it used the carrot approach.... taxes wouldn't increase for anyone, but those eating healthier diets, or driving more efficient cars would pay less. I believe there is a life insurance company in UK which gives discounts to vegetarians JonJ

Guest guest
hey! no fair giving some positive news and then turning like a coward back to the blackness! I'm reading After Many a Summer Dies the Swan, and the author gives one character an interesting line, something like, " there's nothing wrong with being cynical, you just have to know where to stop " like the idea, gotta stop before the emotions start to move too far towards an imbalance of negative thoughts, and hostility towards those we disagree with - <EBbrewpunx <vegan-network > Tuesday, June 18, 2002 8:39 PM Re: [100% veg*n ] Re: prisons versus hospitals > In a message dated 6/18/02 4:49:38 PM Pacific Daylight Time, > resppect writes: > > Yes! it's great to know the positive news, as well. > > I remember another news you posted a while back about the CA school that > > was > > voting to include (or switch) their cafeteria food to organic > > > egads..its bad when ya got me bein' the positive one!!! > things are worse off then we thought!!! > *runs fer the hills* > oh, wait..uranium mines, shale oil extracting, acid rain.. > ummmmm > *runs fer islands* > umm..global warming, rising ocean waters, coral reefs dying, over fishing, > toxic waste dumping... > oh....i'll just sit here in the city and calmly watch " survivor " and be a > good sheep.. > bah > fraggle > > >
