Thanks, Ashley. I tend to think this is correct because I had finally

decided that the lip problems were due to lack of lubrication - not getting

all of the fat that I was eating before.

I would attribute this to perhaps missing the omega oils, omega-3 in

particular is the one that is less abundant in the vegan diet. I have seen

a few vegans with this.

Flaxseed oil and hemp oil are good sources. Try a little bit mixed into

your porridge with sultanas and sliced banana, and stir it in good before

you add the white stuff which we can't refer to as milk because some farmers

might get upset.

some numbers from Becoming Vegan

size- 1 tablespoon/ Omega 6 as % of total fat/ omega 3 as % of total fat

soybean oil / 51% / 7%

walnut oil / 53% / 13%

hempseed oil / 57% / 19%

flaxseed oil / 16% / 57%

and since we're on fatty acids, if you've read about DHA (consider getting

Becoming Vegan if you haven't, or actually even if you have heard of DHA)

here's a place to buy vegan DHA online

http://www.veganessentials.com/products/vitaminstherapeutics/vitamins.asp

and again, since some soy and flax are GMO, avoiding it is as easy as buying

organic

to GMOs, and how to avoid GMOs)

Oh, and one more question-

<excuse if it sounds silly>

I am subject to random drug testing because I work in a sensitive position.

I have some vegan food bars that contain hemp. Will that show a positive

false reading on a urine test?

It very likely will show up positive and the reading will not be false. You'll

have a tough time explaining that one. Also poppy seeds on a roll will also show

up positive for heroin.
