Google, as ever, is your friend: http://www.google.com/search?q=vegan+alcohol http://www.google.com/search?q=animal+products+alcohol First links go to these pages respectively: http://www.vegansociety.com/html/info/info28.html http://www.vegsoc.org/info/alcohol.html And of course you can always write to the producers of your favourite beverage! Often you might get a " we cannot guarantee... " style answer, but it can't hurt to ask. Doubtless both societies would appreciate your sharing any findings about new products. ...ciaran -- Ciaran Anscomb, Perl/C Hacker No disclaimer? http://www.goldmark.org/jeff/stupid-disclaimers/ Every dancing kind in me left leaving me. Guest guest
if you want to find out more about old world wine and their fining and clarification process, put those words in. most old world red and some white wines use egg instead of the now used benzoate to clear all sediment from the wine before bottling. --- Ciaran Anscomb <ciaran-veg wrote: > Brett Budz wrote: > > > > I'm currently doing a research project on finding > if > > liquors (alcohol) include animal ingredients in > the > > finished product/or if animal ingredients are used > in > > the process of making the liquor (filtered through > > something that is animal derived). Guest guest
It is a proven fact, most beer and wine is made with isinglass. Isinglass is a brewing process made primarily from the bladders of fishes. This is used in most beer and wine processing. There may be beer and wine made without the isinglass process...but from the research I have found, most use it. As a practice, I just steer clear from ANY beer and wine, to play it safe. Guest guest
Most beer? Erm. No. Why not look at the web sites mentioned: > > http://www.vegansociety.com/html/info/info28.html > > http://www.vegsoc.org/info/alcohol.html There is a whole world of beers out there which are suitable. As for wine, that's more difficult as they different vineyards do it differently, your supplier (store, web site etc.) should be able to tell you what they can offer which are suitable. Additionally if you are in the UK then you can buy the Vegan Shopper which lists a lot of suitable wines. Finally (and by all accounts do not trust me on this, always check) I believe that all organic beers in the UK are vegan otherwise they are unable to be certified as organic. I'm not sure if this also applies to wine. Guest guest
Hi I wrote to the manufacturers of Tia Maria some time ago and here is their response " Dear jayne Although our products comply with the Food Safety Act 1990 and other applicable statutory regulations and codes of practice, we are not qualified to comment on the affect that our products may have on a particular individual or medical condition. Individuals who believe themselves to be intolerant of foods and food additives should, therefore, seek expert medical advice. Tia Maria is suitable for Vegans as it excludes all animal products and their derivatives. I hope this helps regards Stephanie " Brett Budz [brett_budz] 31 July 2002 15:15 vegan-network [100% veg*n ] Is liquor vegan? Hello, Im currently doing a research project on finding if liquors (alcohol) include animal ingredients in the finished product/or if animal ingredients are used in the process of making the liquor (filtered through something that is animal derived). There isnt much or sufficient information on that on internet. If you know any more information or source on that, please let me know and that would be helpful for my project. Any response to this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brett Health - Feel better, live better http://health.
