Guest guest
Hi When I went veggie I kept my leather shoes etc until they wore out. In fact I had my walking boots for about 4 years, and only in the last couple of years have bought a digital camera to replace my old SLR. I felt that it was a waste of the animal's pain if I just threw all non veggie things in the bin and not a good use of the environment to then source brand new vegan ones. Also it takes a while to get to know the best sources for things - I always find the vegan festival in London a great source of sources! The other thing is it costs money to simply bin everything and swap! I personally wouldn't fret about it - veganism is more than a statement, it's a way of life.. I would be extremely surprised if you always do everything perfectly 'vegan' - mistakes will happen in what you eat and use. I have now accepted this and just remember what the vegan society told me what I was given Parma ham in a 'vegan' meal - I'd spent about 3 hours the night of the dreaded ham meal getting myself in a right state, in tears, angry, and trying to make myself sick.. I called the society the next day to be reassured that veganism is more than just what you put in your mouth it's a way of life!' I was a lot less hard on myself and still had a good evening (though the restaurant was in no doubt of my opinions!) when I was given a meat instead of a veggie samosa the other year! In 6 weeks I am also marrying a dedicated meat eater - now this one I did have problems with! However, he has - at his offer gone veggie when we're together and the house is totally veggie. Our wedding will be totally veggie and mainly vegan (including all the wines!). I have saved a lot more animals pain by working through this with him than trying to change him for a veggie or vegan model! I'm the strictest vegan I know - I'm also 'chilled' about the whole thing and veganism is part of my life - it doesn't control my life! Guest guest
Hi Jayne Yes, I agree about the leather shoes. I too still have leather shoes though am slowly replacing them with vegan friendly shoes like from Freerangers. The shoes I am wearing today are vegan friendly but I did wear some leather ones this week and I will continue to wear them until they are old and no good! I have only been a vegan for just over 18 months or so, so I guess this is quite common to still have such articles around the house! The damage has already been in done in that the animal already suffered and the shoes were already made and I had bought them before turning vegan but I make the right choices now and that's the main thing. :-) I'm looking forward to shopping at the National Vegan Festival! Why are you the strictest vegan you know? Do you eat a very restrictive diet? I once tried rawfoodism but that was way too restrictive for me so I eat an average vegan diet now. Anyway, good luck with the wedding! Janey x > Hi > > When I went veggie I kept my leather shoes etc until they wore out. Guest guest
Hi re: Why are you the strictest vegan you know? Do you eat a very restrictive >diet? 'cause I don't personally know many vegans and I follow veganism to the purity of what the vegan society state! Not restrictive - just strict! I know that there are many people on this list that are 'stricter' or just a true a vegan as me! As far as restrictive goes - I'm vegan who is highly sensitive to yeast and cocoa! I fine this far more restrictive than veganism! Thanks for the good luck wishes! I think I might need it when the guests realise that though they are having pasties in Cornwall they are full of tofu!
