Guest guest
i'll ask around fer ya glucosamine is " all the rage " , at least around here... as fer veggie pets i guess it depends.... first it depends on the animal involved..cats are carnivorous(except fer the stray houseplant and grass nibbling), dawgs are more omniverous...so, ipso cats have a hard time taking the step toward veggieness...they need a constant supply of taurine fer one.... it is a tough question, imo...on the one hand, we want our children to be happy and healthy, we can make the choice to be veggie, vegan, raw, fruitarian, etc..they can't...they rely on us..we have to make informed choices on the other hand, by feeding yer pup meat in a can, you are fostering the trade in animal lives and suffering, just so you can have a companion.. it is not an easy subject with quick answers..they take thought, and both camps have good points... and, i'm certainly not preaching either one...i'm a stinkin' fence sitter...i've had a cat who has been with me 12, almost 13 yrs now, and he is an avowed fish eater...and, until my pup got stolen from me, he was on a mostly veggie dogfood diet..so, i have it both ways... damn evil me.... will see wot i can find out about the joint ammendments fraggle " Coldeventhough, Ms " <coldeventhough wrote: > > >dear all, i'm a vegan in a vegetarian family with a healthy 8 year old >vegetarian spaniel. our vet recently suggested we supplement him with >glucosamine +/- chrondroitin sulphate as a preventative measure- for supple >healthy joints etc (he woke up a little stiff one morning and we all >overreacted in 'new parent' mode) >i looked in boots and found that the chrondroitin (sp?!) is a fish product >and would like to find an alternative- does anyone know what we could use or >where i could find out?? i guess it could be a similar vegetarian supplement >for joints for humans as the first is the same but i'm not aware of any... >and what are people's thoughts on vegetarian pets? and on pet 'ownership' in >general?? > > >_______________ >Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. >http://www.hotmail.com > > > >To to the Digest Mode [ recommended ], send an email to: vegan-network-digest > >
Guest guest
i pesonally thinks it's a cool idea to have evegtarian pets....but i also think that....if they were made to eat meat..(such as my ferrets are) then i won't try to make them eat a vegetarian diet.... and i love animals...and love having pets...( 10 ferrets, 3 guinea pigs, 2 hamsters, a mouse, and a dog.....and hopefully soon a mali uromastyx(australian desert dwelling lizard....who by the way....only eats fresh veggies/fruits/and grain foods ) that's my thought.....but if the dog likes it....go for it...(my dog likes soy icecream a lot! lol) casey --- " Coldeventhough, Ms " <coldeventhough wrote: > > > dear all, i'm a vegan in a vegetarian family with a > healthy 8 year old > vegetarian spaniel. our vet recently suggested we > supplement him with > glucosamine +/- chrondroitin sulphate as a > preventative measure- for supple > healthy joints etc (he woke up a little stiff one > morning and we all > overreacted in 'new parent' mode) > i looked in boots and found that the chrondroitin > (sp?!) is a fish product > and would like to find an alternative- does anyone > know what we could use or > where i could find out?? i guess it could be a > similar vegetarian supplement > for joints for humans as the first is the same but > i'm not aware of any... > and what are people's thoughts on vegetarian pets? > and on pet 'ownership' in > general?? > > > _______________ > Join the world?s largest e-mail service with MSN > Hotmail. > http://www.hotmail.com > > >

Guest guest
Hiya... I'm on your side. I have two vegan dogs and a vegan cat, all happy and healthy (and all betwixt the ages of 9 and 14 years of age)! I'm not sure what the veg*n version of chrondroitin would be, but you might be able to find out at www.vegancats.com. It's actually a site for all vegan companion animals, so don't let the name put you off. It's also based in the States, but it could prove insightful. Meanwhile, you'd be amazed what you'd find on the 'net. There's a society for British homeopathic vets which lists the details of alternative therapy vets nationwide. I'll see whether i can find the URL for you. Nope, no joy yet, but let me know if you need some help in locating it. You probably are already aware of this, but wheatgrass is exceptionally good for joints...as is flax oil. This is true for dogs as well as humans. Okay, enough gibber. Good luck! xxk@xx Coldeventhough, Ms [coldeventhough] 13 October 2002 18:22 vegan-network [100% veg*n ] dogs dear all, i'm a vegan in a vegetarian family with a healthy 8 year old vegetarian spaniel. our vet recently suggested we supplement him with glucosamine +/- chrondroitin sulphate as a preventative measure- for supple healthy joints etc (he woke up a little stiff one morning and we all overreacted in 'new parent' mode) i looked in boots and found that the chrondroitin (sp?!) is a fish product and would like to find an alternative- does anyone know what we could use or where i could find out?? i guess it could be a similar vegetarian supplement for joints for humans as the first is the same but i'm not aware of any... and what are people's thoughts on vegetarian pets? and on pet 'ownership' in general?? _______________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com To to the Digest Mode [ recommended ], send an email to: vegan-network-digest
