Pfffttt... They're wrong in their use of language, but we cannot use that as an excuse. The evidence suggests that they are right, and that vegans need to take a B12 supplement. This is also what the UK Vegan Society says. It is worth emphasizing that the study didn't say that there was anything wrong with being vegan, as long as people make sure they are getting their B12. That isn't news. The saddest thing about the story was that some researcher managed to find two vegan mums who didn't know to take B12 supplments. I read my own message, and immediatey wanted to correct it. The saddest thing is that the kids got brain damage.

It's a case study, not a piece of epidemiology. No-one is pretending it is epidemiology. > why, sounds like an epidemic I really have no idea what your opinion is. Are you saying the Vegan Society is wrong about B12? If so, why? > now...how many moms have given birth to kids with...abnormalities, who smoke? eat bacon everyday? > I have absolutely no idea, and that is completely besides the point. (It bears repeating that one of the kids improved when she got a B12 supplement.) EB, the vegan movement *already* *knows* that the only reliable sources of B12 are supplements and fortified foods. This is not some great big anti-vegan conspiracy, and it certainly doesn't damage veganism in the slightest. What would damage veganism would be people stubbornly refusing to accept that they need supplments or fortified food to get their B12, and ending up as case studies of deficiency symptoms on Reuters.
