No, there is not. > It is difficult but they can start awareness programmes with school > children .Ifaw has done some good programmes in China. Yes, several organisations have made a start but there is a long way to go. IFAW has some good programmes as you say: http://www.ifaw.org/page.asp?unitid=8 So also has AAF: http://www.animalsasia.org/ And several smaller organisations have now started up. And there are organisations in Taiwan and Hong Kong which are establishing models which can be copied in Mainland China. John.
Guest guest
I think I can say I am the biggest fool over pets there ever was (ok, maybe there are one or two people worse than me). I have 6 hamsters (have had approx. 23 total in 3 years). I recently had my smallest hamster operated on to remove 5 tumors for $336.00. I call him my $500.00 hamster, because that's how much we've spent so far to get him well. They all get treats every night (apple rings, fresh apples, brocolli, peppers, etc. etc.) and the " special needs " one get yogurt every day. They are just my little children. I also volunteer cleaning bunny cages once a month, and would have a farm if I could (just for pets), but I live in an apartment right now. Let me tell ya, though. Whoever said hamsters are low maintenance, they were wrong. That's what moms and dads are told when they want a pet for their kids, but it's so not true ! I think I spend more time and money on my little guys than I ever did on my cats or dog... Just my little input there... Guest guest
Ya well, how many of you have paid for cancer treatment on you dog? See, I probably have you all beat! He is, by the way, fine with only a white patch on his leg from the radiation. The chemo doesn't seem to have left any lasting problems either... I also have 2 cats, Chiquita and Zorro, both rescues. One, my dog treed, I thought it was a baby skunk. Poor little starving nasty thing. If he had his gonands, he'd rule the world. He is sweet, but beats up on my other cat. But, it seems that karma applies to cats too. My current foster dog LOVES to play with him. Play like dogs play, rough, hard and long. It's really pretty funny to watch. Zorro yowls like he doesn't like it, but I know how tough a critter he is, if he wanted, he could do massive damage on the dog... so I figure he's OK. So, yes, I also foster dogs for the local animal rescue group that I volunteer with. Bella is really sweet, but it's taken a while for her to come out of the shell she was hiding in. She was badly abused and starved... but is filling out nicly now, thank you. I think she'll be up for adoption this weekend, depends on how she does with the dogs at the park tomorrow. Did you all grow up in pet friendly houses or were you like me where animals lived outside and people lived inside? have a good day! I grew up in a pet-friendly house. My mother was batty about animals, as I am. Maybe she was even more so... When I was a child, we had a BIG cat (about 30 lbs, he must have been a Maine Coon cat) named Kitty, and a little wire-haired fox terrier named Rex. Both were housepets. Big kitty used to chase the dog all around sometimes, when he was feeling mean - no wonder! He was much larger plus had sharp claws... I've had (counting the current two) eight dogs in my life at various times, and various cats - of which we currently have one. There's no doubt, though I love both, that my preference is the dogs. DH, however, is a 'cat person'. Pat

I don't usually watch much TV except for Star Trek: The Next Generation (which I am making a full collection of on VHS as they play on TNN... I'm quirky, I know), but I have heard of that. > Do show us to the pictures when you get them > tranfered. > > ~ P_T ~ Actually, it will probably take me FOREVER to switch it over, so here's what I have right now: http://community.webshots.com/user/annieacid - this has sorted pictures with the names of the hammies (and also some pictures of us and random stuff that you can feel free to ignore.) http://www.pbase.com/annieacid - this is the one I'm switching to, and these pictures are only in the beginning stages of being sorted, and most are duplicates, so pardon the mess ! Guest guest
Doing rescue work is great. I wish I could have a small animal rescue, but not enough room (plus I think if I took in " fosters " , they'd never end up leaving). > I might be one equal to you! LOL I have three > Miniture Pinschers of my own: > Giselle, Brutus, Maxi-Pup and one foster dog, > Declan. I do MinPin rescue in > the southeast.... That must be great exercise, and a great bonding experience. I watch Animal Planet a lot when I come home from work for lunch and sometimes they have stories about dogs and their owners doing Agility. Quite interesting stuff ! > I also compete with my MinPins in Agility all over > the Southeast, as well. > They are our children and treated like the little > Kings & Queens they are! > LOL > Storm New DSL Internet Access from SBC & http://sbc.
