To prevent this, please send a letter to the Royal House (letter in English and Spanish) protocolo Honorable Sirs: I learned that there will be a celebration with hunting and bullfights on the occasion of the wedding of the future King of Spain, Prince Felipe. These acts are totally inappropriate of a modern country. To associate the wedding with the suffering of the animals in the name of an anticuated tradition approved only by a pitiful minority, is not only archaic, but undignified of a modern and democratic Royal House! The Royal Family doesn’t seem aware of the fact that both Spaniards and European citizens have shown their total rejection to any kind of spectacles and acts where animals are victims of torture and death. The influence of the bullfighting circles may have reached the Royal House…but it is considered unjust and immoral that the Royal Family should accept this type of acts so cruel and degrading to men and animals alike! We do hope that the future Kings of Spain re-direct their interest in educating their children to respect ALL living beings, and also in considering democracy above the interests of the group. Con todos mi respetos, Name/Country/e-mail ACTION AGAINST POISONING SENT HIS LETTER: <protocolo letter sent to the Spanish Royal Family 16 March 2004 Royal Spanish wedding, bullfight and hunting programmed in celebration. Action Against Poisoning www.actionagainstpoisoning.com info The Hague, The Netherlands 16 March 2004 To the Royal Court of Spain Your Highnesses, First of all we share your grief for the victims of the train attacks in Madrid on March 11th. Action Against Poisoning is informed on some aspects of the preparationfor thewedding of Prince Felipe. We hope that the Royal Family, their guests and the Spanish people will enjoy a perfect day of joyful celebration that will be a mondial event. Allegedly bullfights and hunting are part of the program. If this is the case we beg you to refrain from any such festivities that include cruelty towards animals. We hope you can understand that the majority of the people who witness the celebration get deeply hurt byany (formal or folkloristic) ceremonial activity that involves cruelty towards animals. Festivities in particular do not match with any form of suffering, either from people or animals. For that matter we are convinced that cruelty is picked up easily by children whentorture and killing is connected with positive feelings like heroism and joy. Besides that cruelty towards animals is one step away from cruelty towards people. We hope that your Royal Family will use the wedding of Prince Felipe as an example for Spain and the rest of the world to tilt the balance in well respected folkloristic customs towards a greater respect for animal life.
