Guest guest
I hope this list helps. I have read all of them and highly recommend them. They are not in order of preference or meaningfulness. linda HARVEST FOR HOPE, A GUIDE TO MINDFUL LIVING, Jane Goodall, (2005)Goodall, the renowned scientist on primates, turns her attention to taking a stand for a more sustainable world. She urges us to take a hard look at the food we produce and consume showing us how easy it is to create positive change. DOMINION, Matthew Scully, (2002)The Power of Man, the Suffering of Animals, and the Call to Mercy. This is a really excellent book and important reading. Mr. Scully is/was a special assistant and senior speechwriter to President George W. Bush. He covers a massive amount of information including things that most of us have never been exposed to. Highly Recommended. THE FOOD REVOLUTION, John Robbins, (2001) Outstanding well rounded book about issues from our food supply, including genetically modified foods, to animal welfare, environmental issues and much more. He also wrote Diet for a New America back in 1987 which was a wake up call to many in our nation. Forward in this new book is by Dean Ornish, M.D. renowned for saving many lives through diet and psychosocial interventions. Highly recommended. THE PIG WHO SANG TO THE MOON, The Emotional World of Farm Animals, Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson, (2003)This is a wonderful book as are all of Masson's. MEAT MARKET, Animals, Ethics, & Money, Erik Marcus, (2005)An excellent book, enlightening and encouraging for all of us. MAKING KIND CHOICES, Ingrid Newkirk, (2005) cofounder and President of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)The Dalai Lama says, " As this book explores, acts of kindness, even in the simplest ways, are what make our lives meaningful, bringing happiness to ourselves and others. " Simple ways of improving our world. ANIMAL LIBERATION, Peter Singer, (1975 updated 2002)is a highly respected and powerful bioethicist and is currently the Ira W. De Camp Professor of Bioethics at Princeton University's Center for Human Values. WHEN ELEPHANTS WEEP, The Emotional Lives of Animals, Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson, (1995) This is a wonderful book as are all of Masson's. SLAUGHTER HOUSE, The Shocking Story of Greed, Neglect, and Inhumane Treatment Inside the US Meat Industry, Gail Eisnitz, (1997) was the 2004 recipient of AWI's Albert Schweitzer Medal for outstanding achievement in the field of animal welfare. Guest guest
Thanks so much Linda for those titles! I'll be looking for them. I wanted to read more on the subject and those sound perfect. Thanks so much! I actually checked out " The Food Revolution " from the library a few days ago, so I'm already reading that one. I read " Diet for a New America " already but felt like reading his other books too. Thanks again! vegan-network , " linda " <lindai81@c...> wrote: > > I hope this list helps. Guest guest
Erik Marcus' " Vegan: The New Ethics of Eating " is comprehensive regarding the health, animal rights, and environmental aspects of veganism. Howard Lyman has a new book, " No More Bull! " which is a follow-up of sorts. I've just starting reading it, so I'll let you know how I like it when I'm done. I also have heard of a book called " Skinny Bitch " which I hear is good.
