Frustrated Vegetarian going Vegan

I've been a Vegetarian for three years. I'm slowly in the process of

going Vegan. I feel changing my eating habits overnight would not be

healthy. So I've been giving myself resolutions. At the end of one

year I'll be of this; at the end of the next year I'll be off that.

So far it seems to be working.

As far as removing myself from using animal products or bi-products,

I think I'm doing fairly well at. It's the job that I'm having a

problem with.

Recently, I was living in Billings, MT were I worked at a food co-op.

I loved it. Well, I moved back to Washington State to be closer to my

son. I recently found a job that was a before and after school

program for kids. I liked it but wasn't enough hours. So, I have

wound up falling back on a job that I'm good at but don't want to do

because of the all around cruelty that it does. That is a fast food

chain. I'm good at it because of the customer service. I love

customer service, that's what I'm good at.

This is not what I want to do. What I would like to do is work at a

grocery store or co-op. Eventually, I would like to go back to school

and work going into a field of nutrition knowledge. Right now, I feel

that the only thing I can do is fast food. I feel like a hypocrite.

Accepting this job, has really let me down. So, I figured that I

would try and reach out to someone who is willing to listen.

Whatever it takes. A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.

Remember though, if you fall into old habits tomorrow is another day. In

my way of looking at things each day is like a new life. You begin it

with the dawn, make your resolutions and fight to win in the chosen area

of life that day. The next day is another life to live.

Find the best path to get there and keep returning to it no matter what.

I worked a job I hated for 7 years. Although it did not involved cruelty

to animals it was turning me into an uncaring, empty shell. Still, I

felt the world crash down around me when they closed that business. Now,

I am my own boss, run my own company and work when I choose. You can

change your life! Disappointment naturally wells up in us when we face

such challenges. Decide to change and take small steps in that

direction. Keep your eyes open for opportunities and the want-ads close

at hand.

Apply those skills to a help desk job, perhaps. Those are good skills

and they will apply in many places.

Stop that! Doing the best you can do does not mean you are a hypocrite.

Who knows, you may even gain knowledge to help in the fight!

If your heart is in the right place then your body will end up there

too!
