Mumbai: You’ve heard of niche marketing, but this could be new. Vegetarians in

Mumbai are now demanding meat-free mall.

" We feel that non-vegetarians should have separate malls. It should not be kept

in the same mall,†says a resident of Mumbai and a vegetarian Vimla Zaveri.

This is the latest battle between vegetarians and non-vegetarians in Mumbai.

Pro-vegetarian groups like the Maharashtra Gopalan Samiti have launched a

campaign against malls selling non-vegetarian items.

" We are totally against non-vegetarian. Why should you kill and eat,†says

president, Maharashtra Gopalan Samiti, Vinod Gupta.

But separate malls would only add to the problems of consumers because shopping

might not remain a one-stop experience.

" It is an inconvenience, one doesn't come only to buy non-vegetarian here, but

grains,†says a resident of Mumbai and a non-vegetarian, Fareeda.

Another resident of Mumbai, Sandeep, who is a vegetarian adds, “What is the

point then of having a place where you can come and shop for everything.â€

Meanwhile, the malls are already taking steps to keep both sides happy. Keeping

the popular sentiment in mind, they have separate departments for non-vegetarian

food in the same premises.

" It is a consumer requirement. Also in terms of hygiene, it helps us serve the

customer better,†says Business head, Hypercity mall, Ashutosh Chakradev

" NOTICE: Due to Presidential Executive Orders, the National Security Agency may

have read this email without warning, warrant, or notice. They may do this

without any judicial or legislative oversight. You have no recourse nor

protection save to call for the impeachment of the current President. "
