Guest guest
Hello, To get your iron level up try dried apricots. do you take a vitamin supplement with iron in it? You may have to do that since protein itself doesn't necessarily provide the iron you need. dw , " bookjunky03 " <bookjunky@a...> wrote: > > Hi all, I'm a new member and wanted to introduce myself. > My name is Kay and I live in Indiana. > I have been a vegetarian (off and on) for about 20 years. > The reason I've been off and on is because of my anemia. Guest guest
Welcome to the group! =) I would think you'd need more IRON rather than protein, but I could be wrong!.... My son was 'borderline anemic' as an infant when I started him on solid foods. He was still breast fed, and I didn't want to put him on iron that young, so I researched and found foods rich in iron. His iron count was raised significantly in one month. best of luck! Guest guest
oh, and one thing to remember is that when you take iron do not take it with dairy.. (t blocks the absorption, but taking it with vitamin C increases the amount your body absorbs... I think that is correct..) Guest guest
my son was " borderline anemic " when he was 1. the doctors were trying to get me to feed him meat...which i didn't. i did try a iron supplement with him and he HATED it (i think most of it ended up on his clothes)! i don't blame him, it smelled like rusted metal. the supplement mysteriously disappeared (we think he threw it away. *lol* he's too smart). i feed him extra brown rice and green beans, and green peas and the next time he was checked he was fine. i have very little faith in doctors....they are clueless about alot of things, especially about nutrition. susie --- Jenni Billings <jenni wrote: > My son was 'borderline anemic' as an > infant when I started > him on solid foods. Guest guest
no problem Kay! I suggest that you find out your blood count... then change eating habits, incorporating more iron rich foods, then have your blood checked again... Then you will have a sense of how much power you can have over your health, through your food! =) peace, Jenni On Monday, June 20, 2005, at 08:59 PM, bookjunky wrote: > > Hi Jenni, thanks for your information. > I am sorry, I was wrong...I did mean iron and not protein. > My internist insists there is no iron the same as what is in meat. > Doctors...they think they know best... > Thanks again, Kay > > >

Guest guest
My name is Kris (short for Kristin), but some friends call my Rogue (like in the X-Men). I am new to the vegan world, and don't really know anyone in person who is vegan. I'm looking forward to being a part of this group. ~Kris
