[100% veg*n ] vit b12, do we really need it???

& there is always nutritional yeast... I just love the stuff sprinkled all over

my scrambled tofu.....

[100% veg*n ] Re: vit b12, do we really need it???

 

 

b12 is an essential vitamin that everyone needs..

b12 is only created by bacteria

we have some of the cute lil buggers in our lower GI tract, but,

they are generally too far down the path to have any b12 absorbed

very well.

 

the bacteria that create b12 also live in the soil.

alas, modern agricultural pratices have basically done away with

said ecology of the soil, due to fertilizers, pesticides,

fungicides, herbicides, and everything else dumped onto the ground...

mixed with modern hygeine, like washing the food stuffs several

times, etc

 

its generally said that vegans should get a suppliment for B12, and

it is also sometimes added to certain products (soy milk, juices,

etc)

 

for the record, i've been veganny for, umm..i dunno..15 yrs or so,

and haven;t taken a suppliment, no nerve damamge yet..at least not

that i know of...last test showed that my B12 levels were fine

me, i chalk it up to trying t o eat organic, and me having an

organic garden and eating str8 from the dirt...

Yum indeed. But only if it's fortified with B12. Many brands of

nutritional yeast are not.

 

(Karene, I'm not seeking to imply you didn't know this; but I thought it

needed saying just in case.)

 i just bought vit b12 in healthy options (organic store) & unfortunately they

dont have any yeast flakes there. i'd been ordering this flakes since january

but it seems i have to order this in u.s. where some of my relatives lives

there.
