Guest guest
hello all... this might not be your scene kris but just recieved this from a friend jasmine, an animal rights active legend in nz... i am copying it here for the group to see...... i see an opportunity for world-wide vegan media and an opportunity to take national strategies world-wide... UNITE... what do u think. isn't it time veganism globalised? keep well colin nz Liberate is a magazine written by and for the animal liberation *movement*in Aotearoa. It aims to encourage discussion amongst the *movement* about animal abuse issues, strategies, tactics and goals. In no way does Liberate aim to create a homogenised, centralised approach to animal liberation but rather we wish to acknowledge our diversity of thought, action and collective experience, knowledge and passion. We acknowledge that industrialised animal abuse is the result of an oppressive global regime that puts power and profit before the preservation of life, whether it be that of an animal, human or mother earth. This system not only encourages and legitimises animal abuse but also racism, sexism, homophobia, colonisation and environmental destruction. It is for this reason that we have proposed that the feature of our next magazine be focused around animal rights/veganism and its relationship to other forms of oppression, where animal rights fits with these forms of oppression, how activists in these different movements can work together and where animal rights (and the community) may be reinforcing the oppression of other groups/the environment or failing to take the oppression of others into account. For example an analysis of veganism and class, animal rights and anarcha-feminism and indigenous *struggles* and traditional hunting practices. It would be great to have peoples' submissions around this topic, just anything you want to say or contributions for any of the other sections in the magazine. We want it all. The other sections are: - Books not Bombs (book, CD and zine reviews and excerpts) - Activism and the (in)justice system (send us details of your brushes with the law and issues relating to prisoner support) - Security - Activist Toolkit (new section detailing useful tips for effective activism) - Reports for the underground - Letters to the community (short comments about the magazine, short replies to articles or a response to anything happening within the community) Please send us your submissions, thoughts, art and/or ideas. We will try not to edit your writing but it may from time to time be necessary if it is too long. *Maximum Length for Submissions:* Features (A3): 1,300 words Opinions: 500 words Letters: 100 – 250 words *Deadline for next issue: 1st August* All submissions will be anonymous. Please send all submissions to liberatemagazine or via snail mail to Liberate, PO BOX 7523, Wellesley Street, Auckland. If you would like to have a copy of Liberate mailed to you every six months you can for $8 per year; this includes postage.
