Hi Fraggle

I'm not hot on the catering front! I usually take hummous and things to dip

in it. For one of Peter's parties once I made little vegetable and nut

tarts - just chopped up veggies with lots of onions. I also made tarts

filled with walnuts in a soya cream white sauce. Another time I made

sausage rolls with a nut roast filling with the main ingredient being

chestnuts.

Sounds like it will be fun.

Maybe a good harvest-type stew. Good fall veggies like potatoes,

turnips, squash, etc. I find biscuits are always really popular. Or

cranberry (walnut) muffins. Just some quick thoughts.

Muffins are thankfully easy!

OK, maybe vegetable " pancakes. " Potatoes, onions, etc. That sounds

good.

Here are a few ideas:

Rosemary Roasted Sweet Potato and Lentil Salad

http://vegweb.com/food/salad/4223.shtml

We are having this tonight - it is quite good and I think we'll be

serving it warm rather than as a salad. Though the recipe said to

leave the peels on the sweet potatoes I didn't.

Portabella Mushroom Bake

http://www.randomgirl.com/recipes.html#portabellobake

This is EXCELLENT. Love this recipe. Serve on rice.

Bulgur with Leeks, Cranberries and Almonds

http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/recipe_views/views/959

Obviously we substitute vegan margarine for the butter and no-

chicken broth for the chicken broth. But I've been making this for

years.

Couscous with artichoke hearts and walnuts - from Moosewood Cooks at

Home. I can post the recipe if you are interested, I don't have a

link.

I also make a recipe that is like Tzimmes but better ;-) with

roasted sweet potatoes and carrots, prunes, raisins, currants and a

dressing of reduced orange juice, champagne vinegar, salt and

pepper. It travels well and is good cold.

So there you go!

Hey, Nancy. All three of those recipes look GREAT! One question: on the portobello mushroom bake, what is Braggs? I've never heard of that.

I first had tzimmes at Whole Foods from the prepared foods area.

When I looked it up to try to find a recipe I found it is a

traditional Jewish recipe and a lot of the recipes had meat and the

vegetables were boiled. Yuck. So I tried making something that was

closer to what I'd had at whole foods. It's one of those dishes

that many people eye suspiciously (I mean, it's got prunes and sweet

potatoes...) but everyone always likes it.

So I tried making something that was closer to what I'd had at whole foods. It's one of those dishes that many people eye suspiciously (I mean, it's got prunes and sweet potatoes...) but everyone always likes it.nancy , fraggle <EBbrewpunx@e...> wrote:> thanx> tzimmes?> > i guess i need to hunker down and get with this> argh> > also have to get ready fer our monthly meeting tonite...when i just want to hide from this silly world...> moslty cuz its spittin rain and i'm still wet from last nite...> need waterproof vegan boots...> > > > njdoane <njdoane>> Nov 4, 2004 5:21 PM> > Re: thanxfernuthin recipes> > > <ZZZhtml><ZZZbody>> > > <tt>> <BR>> , fraggle <EBbrewpunx@e...> wrote:<BR>> > > anyone got a fave recipe?<BR>> <BR>> Here are a few ideas:<BR>> <BR>> Rosemary Roasted Sweet Potato and Lentil Salad <BR>> <a href="http://vegweb.com/food/salad/4223.shtml">http://vegweb.com/food/salad/4223.shtml</a><BR>> We are having this tonight - it is quite good and I think we'll be <BR>> serving it warm rather than as a salad. I made this for my husband for his birthday cake (replacing the crust with an oat crust) and it was delicious! We are going to have it again on Thanksgiving. Thank you Fraggle. :)

For in a Republic, who is “the country Is it the Government which is for the moment in the saddle? Why, the Government is merely a servant—merely a temporary servant; it cannot be its prerogative to determine what is right and what is wrong, and decide who is a patriot and who isn’t. Its function is to obey orders, not originate them.
