Guest guest
Hi Laurie, It is really a confusing issue about which raw diet is best. I honestly have come to the conclusion that after listening to all the gurus and experts on raw foods, one has to listen to one's own body. That is the ultimate test. I trust my body to tell me what is good for it. I just have to listen very carefully. Overall, raw foods, living foods is the key. We all have to find the combination that best suits us. I also think we cannot be too rigid as vitamin B12 is lacking in vegan raw foods. I think supplements can play an important role for some people. I have heard some raw fooders eat raw or semiboiled eggs for vitamin B12. Anyone here do that? Dr. Fuhrman recommends cooked foods as well. Anyway, I would love to put some articles by experienced Raw food people up on my site. Thanks. http://www.luthar.com/ Namaste and love to all Harsha rawfood [rawfood ] On Behalf Of Laurie Swanson Monday, September 08, 2008 6:15 PM rawfood [Raw Food] Re: Hello Everyone Hello Harsha, Thank you for letting us know of your experiment. Guest guest
Hello Harsha, I have been eating 80/10/10 like (a high fruit low fat diet) starting over 6 years ago. I am thriving quite well on the diet, but there was some transition periods for me. When I first started, I just went to 10% fat right away. However, my body was accustomed to a much higher fat intake. So right away, it felt like I was having to control my diet, as my body wanted more fat. So I started out at 20% fat, and this was OK for me. And over the next 2 years, my fat dropped effortlessly down to 10%. So our bodies are used to our previous diets. Most people cannot simply move from an existing diet of all cooked foods to a diet of all raw foods over night, without exerting a considerable amount of control. And if this control results in desires that are being denied, this is a form of self violence, and the body will respond in kind. A low fat diet is going to be much healthier than a high fat diet. The issue is the transition, because most people are accustomed to a high fat diet like I was. The bottom line is make small steps, and don't take another step you you feel stable at the last step you took. Pay attention to how it feels. Spend more time feeling and you will do fine. Guest guest
Thank you Bryan for taking the time to write. It is much appreciated. I went to the old Hippocrates Institute in 1980-1981 and stayed there for complete three weeks. I am generally familiar with most of the schools in the raw food movement. My subjective impression is that they are all pretty good, as long as one does not overeat, and is not too rigid. For me it is easy to eat 3-4 avocados a day. I have cut that out and am much more careful about the overall raw fat content of my diet these days. Although I have to tell you that, at least for me, high raw fat from avocados and soaked almonds does seem to have a very favorable effect on cholesterol and other stats on trigs and sugar and stuff. The difficulty for me, perhaps many of us, is a lack of a support group. I am about 90%+ raw (for now) but seem not to be able to get past that mostly for social reasons and constraints. Obviously, if I exerted more will power in that direction, perhaps I could. But all the 30 years, I have been in the raw food lifestyle (at least philosophically), I am unable to put it 100% in practice because I have not known any other raw fooders. In fact, I do not meet them unless I go to some specialized raw food retreat. So, I think lack of social support for the raw food life style is a big part of not being able to sustain that preferred form of eating and reach 100%. There are so few dedicated raw fooders among the general population that the probability of running into someone is quite small! Anyway, I appreciate the cyber-space for raw foods that this group provides and along with it all the insights. At least we have that! :-). Thanks.
