A kind bystander brought the poor pup to a nearby veterinary clinic where she received medical care for her injuries.Because the person who found Ritchy was not in a position to keep her or pay for her medical bills, the American Humane Association

awarded a Second Chance Grant of $200 to cover her treatment. The Coalition for Animal Rescue & Education (CARE) in Hillsboro, Missouri is currently taking care of her to help get her ready for adoption.American Humane reported yesterday that Ritchy is having worsening bladder problems and must now see a specialist. The organization is accepting donations for the Second Chance Grant and is working with CARE to get her the medical care she needs to thrive.(Missouri is known as the "puppy mill" capital of America, home to more than 4,000 shoddy and inhumane dog-breeding businesses, by one estimate. When I googled "puppies thrown from truck, MO", numerous stories came up in my search. It would seem that the outrageous practice of tossing puppies out the window is an accepted method by more than a few Missourians for disposing of their unwanted animals.)"It is a miracle that Ritchy survived. Six other puppies were also thrown out

of the window, but Ritchy was the only one that lived," said Carole Pitzer of CARE. "She is a beautiful rust color, has a terrific personality, loves attention and loves playing with other dogs. She is a tough girl."The harsh reality is that when organizations can't afford the medical costs required to help heal severely abused, neglected or injured animals, the animals are frequently euthanized. Second Chance grants help reimburse the providers of urgent vet care for at least some of their expenses. American Humane relies heavily on the generosity of the pet-loving community to award Second Chance grants. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a big difference for animals in need.Learn more about the Second Chance Fund and how you can help Ritchy and other animals who deserve a second chance.“We now know that a neo-conservative is an arsonist who sets the house on fire and six years later boasts that no one can put it out.â€
