I promised a friend who's moving to Boulder soon to show him around this lovely

town that I have made my home for the past 4 years. There's so much to do, what

do I show him? The flatirons that sit so high and mightily in our own backyard

and frame the blue and orangey blends of the sunset over the mountains? The

eclectic culture of Pearl Street or the green lawns and red brick of my alma

mater? The never-ending supply of incredible food? There's only so much time!

If I absolutely had to pick here's what I would do if I was visiting Boulder, CO

for a weekend. The list actually ended up being totally about food. But don't

judge, food is what I do!

Here are my hands-down must-sees (and eats) of Boulder for a traveling vegan:

• Friday afternoon: starting June 12th, Noon Tunes and Wednesday evening Bands

on the Bricks starting June 10th on Pearl Street. No matter who's playing, its

always a great time dancing and uh…watching people dance. Love to my Boulder

hippies.

• Friday afternoon tea: The Teahouse: Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse, implanted from

Tajikistan in 1990. The building is absolutely beautiful, hand-built by Tajik

artisans. The staff is great, and the menu is absolutely amazing. It actually

changes, which is exactly what a menu should do in my opinion. Vegan options are

not only available, but sound delectable. On the menu right now: Brunch

omelettes with tofu substituted for the eggs, Persian Chickpea Kufteh, Tajik

Shish Kabob, Thai Coconut Green Curry, and amazing Vegan Rice Pudding, among

many others. The food always represents any number of countries from most of the

world's continents. Oh yeah, and I forgot about the tea. I would keep talking

forever if I could. Just go. That's all I have to say.

• A quiet night at the Hotel Boulderado. It is, and I quote, " Finest luxury

hotel in Boulder " . This is quoting from their website, of course, but it really

does have the whole package, and visitor's packages galore. Plus, just 10

minutes in the building and you feel like you are staying in 1920. In fact, the

Hotel Boulderado is turning 100 this year!

• Lunch: Half Fast Subs. This place has more vegan options than I would ever

have thought. The typical college weekend night hangout for Margs n' Islands has

turned into a haven for a great meal anytime.

• Hiking, anywhere around Boulder would be great. Mt. Sanitas, a flatiron- the

2nd is my favorite, or Bluebell Mesa.

• Dinner: VG Burgers, now in a more convenient, downtown location! (I don't work

for them, I promise). Everything is organic and vegan. Yup, I said it.

Everything.

• Sunday breakfast: The Walnut Café, of course! South and Central Boulder. The

chai is really good, just like the new-fashioned diner atmosphere.

• Take a walk! The Boulder Creek Path is always open, and always freshly

smelling of nature.

• Take back those calories at Boulder Baked or Tee and Cakes. Two words: vegan

cupcakes. Scratch that, three words: amazing. vegan. cupcakes. The latter bakes

vegan on Wednesdays on Fridays only.

Do I have to stop? I am so glad I'm only pretending to be `just passing

through'…
