If anyone has a champion juicer you can take frozen bananas and run them

through the champion juicer.? You can also mix frozen fruit or mix peanut butter

and carob powder to make different flavors.? It comes out like soft serve ice

cream.? We do this a lot at our house and love it!

Any recipe suggestions for homemade ice-cream in either a hand-churned

container or those ones you do in a ziploc bag? Our church group is looking

at doing homemade ice cream at a July activity, and are looking for what

they can do for my son. Something simple. I thought maybe coconut milk.

Pam, here's a recipe for fresh mint ice cream (made with agave syrup) that I

made last summer. It's probably a bit of a mature taste for your son, but

I've used the same volumes of ingredients to make chocolate ice cream (with

cocoa powder added in) and chocolate orange (with leftover chocolate sauce

and some orange zest in it). I used the same recipe to make fresh peach ice

cream two days ago; my husband loves it, but I think the coconut flavor

comes through too strongly compared to the other flavors we've tried making.

http://aprovechar.danandsally.com/?p=289 & cpage=1

The dairy-free cookbook from Go Dairy Free (came out in the last six months,

I think) also has a variety of dairy-free ice creams in it.

There is a new book out called Vegan Scoops that has all vegan ice cream recipes

in it.  You should be able to find it at Barnes & Noble or Borders.

Do you already use potato milk. 1:1 full fat coconut milk:potato milk makes a

nice base. We add in some sugar (1/2 cup per liter of liquid) and vanilla

flavouring and my kids love it.

The only commercial potato milks that I am aware of include corn

ingredients, which we can't have. But I imagine a homemade soy, rice,

millet, or almond milk would work.

Does Taso have something you can't have Pam? I haven't got any lately

as the kids are liking Ryza right now, but I was just wondering what

might be in the Taso?

Do you mean Tayo? It has crystalline fructose.

-Ice Cream recipe.

This recipe is good, the high amount of oil stops it from icing over and as it

makes 2L it is only a small amount of oil per serving, lol.

6 large very ripe bananas

1c cold pressed oil

3T sweetener (honey was used in original recipe)

1C water

6T soy milk powder

2T carob powder

1t vanilla (opt)

Blend well, pour into a container and freeze.

This ice cream keeps well.

Have you tried it with any other kind of non-dairy milk powder (like

rice milk powder or potato milk powder)?

-hi Brenda, cant get rice milk or potato milk powder where I live but think it

would work ok, it is the oil that makes the texture good. Havent made this for

a while (too many recipes, too little time!) but think I used to make it with

e.v. olive oil.

Dont remember the olive oil being a strong flavour but I have used e.v.o.o. for

years and am used to and like the taste.

Also use to freeze chunks of banana, add frozen berries, a little soy milk,

sweetener and whizz in the food processor and this makes a good instant ice

cream.

It is winter 'down under' and can only dream of ice cream and other summer

goodies.

Happy summer days.

Holly, this recipe sounds delicious! It's very similar to the ice cream recipe

that my mother-in-law made frequently, except instead of free fats (oil) she

used ground cashews (or sometimes a nut butter). Cashews are not strong in

flavor and cream nicely for ice cream.

Thank for sharing!

Thanks Holly. I appreciate your answer. We can't use soy milks here

so I will try. We don't mind evoo, but prefer coconut oil/butter for

these types of things.

I do this with my Omega Juicer. I put in a solid screen instead of a

mesh screen.

I put frozen bananas through it, then put a scoop into everyone's

bowls, add thinly sliced bananas around the sides, top with a few

berries and drizzle pureed mango over it all.

it's very yummy

Posted by Sarah Mirk on Tue, Jul 21, 2009 at 3:22 PM My vegan friends were all excited this weekend over a sweet discovery: Skittles candy has gone vegan. And, if anyone cares, gluten-free. The bags of delicious sugar droplets were vegan in other countries (specifically, their website notes, India and Indonesia) but in the USA Skittles still included gelatin until very recently. The real-life vegan with the giant Skittles feedbag below reported that some Skittles packages on Safeway's shelves still contained gelatin this weekend, others had a newly-revised ingredients list.It looks like Skittles made this switch quietly for some reason. There's no news articles or info on their website about banishing gelatin from their US ingredients. You'd think they would be exciting about opening up Skittles to 8 million more sugar-crazed consumers. Maybe they're worried about stirring up more wrath from PETA?.Comments (20) RSS Sort Oldest to
