Guest guest Posted January 16, 2002 Report Share Posted January 16, 2002 Vegetable Stew w/Buttons - (German) 2-3 medium Potatoes 3 medium sized Carrots 1/2 tsp. Salt, to taste 2-3 Bay Leaves Pinch of Parsley and Dill Weed 1 red hot Chili Pepper (Dried) 1 c. or more of Water 1/2 c. frozen Peans 1/2 c. frozen Corn Can add fresh Zuccini or Green Beans during summer months if desired Buttons: 1 Egg 1/2 Egg Shell amount of Water Flour to Make Dough Stiff 1/2 - 1 tsp. Baking Powder 1/2 tsp. Salt Prepartion of buttons: Place raw egg and 1/2 egg shell of warm water in bowl. Add Salt and Baking Powder. Add flower, continue mixing and kneading and add flour until a stiff dough is formed. Knead or stretch out into a strip 2 inches wide by 1/2 inch thick by whatever length. When it is time, cut bottons into stew until all the dough is used up. Stew Soup: Begin boiling water with Salt, Chili Pepper and Spices. Cut Carrots and Potatoes into small chunks. Cook and boil about 10 minutes. Make sure there is plenty of water to cover vegetables and buttons. After 10 minutes, add rest of Veggies. Mean while, cut the buttons into the stew with scissors while the stew is boiling. Buttons should be relatively small (about 1/2 " thick by 1 1/2 " long).
