Guest guest
Grandma Clara's Southern Iced Tea Classic Vertamae Cooks in the American Family Kitchen by Vertamae Grosvenor Ingredients: 1 gallon water 6 Lipton tea bags 2 cups sugar 2 lemons Bring the water to a boil. Place the tea bags in a heat proof gallon jar and pour the boiling water over them. If you don't have a gallon jar, use 2-3 smaller jars, dividing the tea bags and sugar evenly among them. Add the sugar, stir to dissolve, cover, and allow to steep for 10-15 mins. or to your taste. Remember, you will probably be serving the tea in a glassful of ice, so it should be fairly strong, as the ice will melt and dilute it. Let the tea cool. Slice the lemons and add to the tea. Cover and refrigerate. Enjoy on any day. Makes 1 gallon. (a lot of tea for some, just right for this house of only 2) lol ** I have been cutting down on my sugar so this is a bit too sweet for me. However, it would not have been a few years ago. LOL You can play around to find the right ratio for your own taste. I love sweet tea. I live in the north now and the only " sweet " tea offered is tea with a packet of sugar. All southern tea drinkers realize this is not " sweet " tea. The tea doesn't dissolve! LOL sweet tea drinkers unite! Enjoy! Got something to say? Say it better with Video Mail
