Guest guest Posted May 20, 2002 Report Share Posted May 20, 2002 Vegetarian Swiss Steak 6 - 8 cooked gluten steaks (recipe previously posted) Breading meal 1 Tbsp. oil 1 Tbsp. oil 1 small onion, thinly sliced 1 stalk celery, thinly sliced 1 medium carrot, thinly sliced 1 Tbsp. flour 1/4 tsp. salt (optional) 1 - 16 oz. can tomatoes, cut up 1 - 8 oz. can tomato sauce 1 tsp. vegetarian Worchestershire sauce Dip the gluten steaks into breading meal and brown lightly in oil in a non-stick skillet. Place in 12 x 7 1/2 x 2 baking dish. Wipe out skillet and add oil, onion, clery, and carrot. Saute' until onions are translucent, taking care not to brown the vegetables. Sprinkle flour over vegetable mixture. Saute' 1 minute longer. Stir in undrained tomatoes, tomato sauce, Angostura sauce, and salt. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. Pour over gluten steaks in baking dish. Bake in a 350 degrees F. oven for 30 - 45 minutes.
