Some research seems to indicate that we seek out

sugary sweets during times of stress because

carbohydrates boost levels of serotonin -- a brain

chemical that offers a calming effect against

stress-releasing cortisol. Cortisol is a hormone

that's been associated with increased food intake.

Simple sugars (cookies, candy), however, can aggravate

stress by wreaking havoc on blood sugar levels.

Stabilize your mood by consuming complex carbohydrates

(veggies, whole grains) in conjunction with a healthy

fat and protein source.
