Guest guest
Using Up Older Spices Although ground spices should be tossed out and replaced after approximately six months, you may feel a pang of guilt throwing your spices away and think that you must use them somehow. Here are a few simple ideas for how you can use up those oldies but goodies that have been hiding in your cabinet. Add a pinch or two more than a recipe calls for, whether it's savory or baked goods. This is especially true of cayenne or ground red pepper, curry powder, and chili powder. Combine ground cinnamon with sugar for cinnamon sugar. Add a bit of allspice or a pinch of grated nutmeg to the mix if you'd like. Combine spices, such as ground garlic, onion, curry, or cayenne, to softened butter or margarine. Use ground spices as a complementary or colorful garnish. Sprinkle paprika on potatoes, chicken, fish, or vegetables. Put a dash of ground cinnamon or cardamom in the coffee grounds when you brew coffee. Add whole cloves or whole allspice berries to hot drinks, such as cider or wine, along with cinnamon sticks and a piece of orange or lemon zest ===== Language is an expression of thought.
