Guest guest
The latest research indicates that a potassium-rich diet may lower stroke risk. A study involving approximately 44,000 men, found those who consumed the most potassium in food about nine servings of fruit and vegetables per day - had a 38 percent lower risk of stroke than men who consumed the least (about four servings). Many fruits and vegetables are high in potassium, including bananas, cantaloupe, kiwi, and raisins and dried apricots. Dried beans (such as kidney, lima, navy, pinto and lentils) are a good source of potassium, as are potatoes, sweet potatoes and winter squash. One of the researchers commented that other components (not just potassium content) of fruits and vegetables may also contribute to the reduced risk of stroke. Study participants with high blood pressure who were taking potassium supplements (about one gram per day) had a 60 percent reduced risk of stroke compared with men who had high blood pressure but did not take supplements, researchers reported. ===== Language is an expression of thought.
