The Quality Of Your Dried Herbs And Spices

Although properly stored herbs and spices can last for up to a year, most will

lose some of their strength over time. A declining seasoning can greatly alter

any recipe.

Green leafy herbs (basil, parsley, thyme) will begin to fade in color with age.

Red spices (paprika, cayenne, chili powder) will begin to change to a brownish

tone. Try crushing a small amount of the herb between your fingers.

If you don't smell a full aroma, the flavoring may have lost its

punch. Purchasing only small amounts of spices can help prevent loss.

The price per ounce may be higher, but you will probably use it all and your

recipes will have consistent results.
