Guest guest
Risa: I believe there is a cookbook (or some cookbooks) called " Jewish Vegetarian Cooking " or maybe even a vegetarian Passover cookbook. (not sure). I have snail mailed all the Passover recipes I come across to my friend, Miriam, who is on this list. If Miriam is not snowed under (literally), perhaps she will respond to you with any recipes she may have. Karen
Guest guest
Risa: Since I didn't have any actual recipes myself (gave them all to Miriam), I found these websites of vegetarian passover recipes for you: http://www.geocities.com/Paris/Bistro/1150/ http://www.cyber-kitchen.com/index/html/gp21.html http://kosher4passover.com/recipes.htm http://vegetarian.miningco.com/msubholpass.htm http://web.mit.edu/yaron/www/passover.html

Well Karen, you've got that right, about being snowed under, that is ;-) I live in Rochester, NY and in the space of 3 days we were the recipients of about 3 1/2 FEET of new snow! This area knows how to deal with snow, but that amount was paralyzing, even here, especially since only about 10 inches was predicted. I am working offline at the moment, since the storm is at least partially responsible for the phone line that the modem is attached to being still down (hopefully service will be restored today,) so I'm not sure when this message will be sent. Last night, in desperation, I hooked up the computer to my main phone line, so I could at least download the 200+ messages that were waiting, all the while praying that someone wouldn't try to call in, which would activate the call-waiting feature, and knock me off. Then I came back to this wonderful list, to find about 50 posts of recipes, and wouldn't you know it, something seems to be wrong with my printer as well. I may have to keep running back and forth between my computer and the kitchen to cook dinner tonight, since I saw a few things I'd really like to try. I guess that's one way to burn off the calories :-) Anyway Risa, I know what you mean about Passover. The amount of eggs and oil you have to use is enough to kill you! If you are in a large metro area, you may be able to find an " Eggbeaters, " type egg substitute product that is kosher for Passover. And since many of the foods that vegetarians normally depend on, such as legumes, rice, pasta, etc., are of course not permitted on Passover, I always feel like I'm not getting enough " real " food to eat, and consequently fill up on too much " junk. " Not my favorite holiday as you can tell. However, there is some hope. There is a booklet put out by the Jewish Vegetarians of North America called " No Cholesterol Passover Recipes. " These are all vegan. I'll give you the address that's in the book, although I'm not sure if it's current, since I've had this for a long time. Jewish Vegetarians, Box 1463, Baltimore, MD 21203. They MAY be part of the Vegetarian Resource Group, which you can find on the web, I believe, at http://www.vrg.org. Also, Deborah Wasserman has a book out called Low-Fat Jewish Vegetarian Cooking. While this is not strictly a Passover book, there are a number of Passover recipes included, and I'm sure that many others can be adapted. These recipes are also vegan. There is " Jewish Vegetarian Cooking, " by Rose Friedman that has a Passover section, and also recipes that I'm sure can be tinkered with to be acceptable. I have the " Jewish Vegetarian Year Cookbook, " by Roberta Kalechofsky. Also vegan. You can find it at http://www.micahbooks.com (I think, being offline I can't check these URLS out, so I'm doing it from memory.) There a number of Jewish Vegetarian/or holiday sites, and I don't have the URLS handy, but you should probably be able to do a simple search to find them. Let me know if I can be of any more help to you. BTW, Karen, do all recipes sent to this list need to be in the Mastercook format? I don't have this software, and I doubt if I even have enough free space on my system at this point to install and run it. At some point I hope to get a new computer, but that isn't going to happen in the near future. Now to save this message, and hope it's not too long before I can actually send it out!
