Guest guest
5-Spice is usually used to flavor something very bland, like tofu. In some Asian markets you can find 5-Spice Tofu. If you like 5-Spice, you should use it the next time you have a stir fry or some other Asian meal. Freeze and thaw any firm or extra-hard tofu (always freeze it!), then squeeze out all the excess water. Slice into 1/4 - 1/2 " slices and sprinkle 5-Spice on both sides. I use a modest amt, as I don't care for it in higher doses. Plenty of other folks love it and use it liberally; you'll have to find your own 5-Spice level. Let the tofu sit for at least a few hours or overnight. Then just use as you would normally. When I use 5-Spice, I usually cut the tofu into strips (I have no idea why) and brown in a heavy skillet over med. to med-hi heat w/ whatever oil strikes my fancy. I haven't seen any other uses for 5-Spice except for tofu, but I imagine it could be used like any other spice combo. Just use it sparingly until you know how much you like. Hope this helps. ---Debby
