Guest guest
Anne, I haven't seen anything go by answering your question, " What is MasterCook!!!?? " <S> MC is a recipe program that does all kinds of neat things. First and foremost, it lets us fanatical recipe collectors store, categorize, import, export, increase, decrease, and dream over what we Might make next. <s> The recipes you see all over the place with the header ** Exported from MasterCook ** are examples of how recipes export. For me, the neatest thing is that I can look in my fridge, see I have catsup, sour cream, slab o' b**f, miso and rice. Then I can go to MC, type in those ingredients, and Boom!! It searches, coming up with recipes that use those ingredients, taking the guesswork out of dinner. I could make Beef(less) stroganoff for me, and the real thing for my carnivorous husband. MC formatted recipes let me take these digests and (Ok Brenda!) using Buster, import them directly into cookbooks I've created myself, in MC. (Buster is a neat program that strips headers from recipe digests, caps or uncaps things, adds or deletes categories, adds tag lines telling you from which digest the recipes comes - or not, etc. It's pretty cool in it's own self! MC also gives you nutritional values for your recipes, and lets you add your own ingredients. Helpful for those on restricted diets. MC is very, very inexpensive (IMHO) but if you see it at Staples, or some other place you pick up software, be careful to buy the most recent version, which is 4.x. The manufacturer's web site, Sierra, offers update patch files free, which you'll need. I mention the version, because you'll find versions 3x out there for $9 and $10. It's well worth it. Gets things off papers, out of unsortable word documents, (BTW, if your recipes are in the computer, perhaps like the tofu recipe you send in? With a few very, very minor adjustments, you can import your own recipes. ) If you're printing cookbooks, say for a family reunion or something, it's a snap!! You can even insert pictures. Enough. I love the program and have owned it since it's first version. Hope this helps! <s> Since I'm eating a bundle of asparagus, here's something that sounded even better! * Exported from MasterCook * Asparagus-Tomato Stir Fry Recipe By : Lisa Crawley <TSPN00B> Serving Size : 6 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Vegetables Vegetarian Amount Measure Ingredient-Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1 tablespoon Cold Water 2 teaspoons Soy Sauce 1 teaspoon Cornstarch ¼ teaspoon Salt 1 pound fresh asparagus 1 tablespoon Vegetable Oil 4 Green Onions-sliced diagonally 1 ½ cups Fresh Mushrooms-sliced 2 small Tomatoes-cut in thin wedges Combine first 4 ingredients in small bowl, stirring until blended. Guest guest
> (Sorry Mac users, no Buster yet.) At the risk of tooting my own horn, I'd like to mention that I'm in the final stages of developing a 'buster'-like application for Macs. It does all kinds of useful stuff to help format, filter, and adjust recipes for importing into MasterCook. It also has some never-before-soon support for vegetarians and helps to convert recipes for veggies. It's called Nuts & Berries and will be finished soon. paul -- <pwelty
