Guest guest
Hi, All! First of all, thanks to everyone for all the great recipes! I think the list is going very well. I want to make sure that everyone is aware of the options they have with their subscription to the list. First of all, it seems that the main reason that people have been unsubscribing from the list is " too much mail " . It's kind of amusing to me why anyone would to a mailing list and then complain about receiving the mail, but, okay. I receive between 100-200 e-mails per day (and I know people who receive even more), so the 15-25 e-mails from this list are not that many to me. I take that as a good sign -- not a dead list with little to no postings. I have changed the list description on ONElist noting that this is a fairly busy list, and I hope that helps people understand the type of list they will be joining. Now I can understand when people have different things going on in their lives, get busy, and can no longer keep up with the mail, that's a different story. Also, for those who do not have MasterCook, they are accumulating lots of recipes with no place to put them other than in a word processing file or something. I know, I'm digressing, so let me get back to the point: If anyone does not like receiving all the individual e-mails from the list, there is a digest version. With the digest version on ONElist, *1* e-mail is sent out when 25 messages have been received by the list and/or at the end of the day. With this list, 1 or 2 digest per day will go out. If anyone would like to change to digest, you may do so by logging in at the ONElist site: , clicking on " Veg-Recipes " and then follow instructions from there. Keep in mind that on digest version, there may be some delay in receiving questions & requests posted and answers to your own questions and requests. Another option is if you only want to stop mail temporarily for whatever reason (busy, going out of town, going on vacation, etc.), you can set your subscription for " no mail " . That way, you remain a list member and you can even still post to the list, but you will not receive any mail from the list. This is easier and faster than unsubscribing and then subscribing again. This can be taken care of on the ONElist site too. I would like to ask that everyone give the list a chance before unsubbing. We are not having a decline in list members. No, quite the contrary -- there are 225 now and it keeps growing. However, sometimes people have d and d the same day (some in less than an hour!) or within a couple of days. A list may need at least a couple of weeks to a month to get a real " feel " for it. Next, I hope y'all have checked out the Bookmarks I set up. If you go to the ONElist site and, again, click on " Veg-Recipes " , and then choose " Bookmarks " , you can view and access the Bookmarks I have set up for this list. There are ones for MasterCook info, vegetarian sites, recipe sites, etc. I am working on putting together a " bulletin " which will go out to every list member on a monthly basis. This will be similar to this post, but more comprehensive, with reminders about to to unsub, change to digest or no mail, etc. I will also have it go out to new rs. Someone suggested to me that maybe we could choose a cookbook (or magazine?) each week and ask everyone who has that particular cookbook to post their favorite recipes from it. To expound on that idea -- we could also have " theme weeks " or just days where perhaps soup recipes are posted or casseroles or vegan dishes, or whatever. This does not mean that postings would be limited to the theme -- other recipes could be posted in addition to whatever the " theme " or " cookbook " is. What do you all think of this idea? While we're at it, does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions? I'm certainly open to them. Thanks a bunch! Karen List Owner
