Knives in the Dishwasher

The rivets on my knives are the same material as the blade, according to the

store and a question to the manufacturers.

I'd heard that, too, which didn't make sense. <S> Why make a quality

handle, and a very good quality blade, and hold them together with a

paperclip? Apparently Gerber and Henkel felt the same way.

My handles aren't wood, but rather that carbon stuff, so they're not going

to split. If yours is, you can have it reglued and put together with

pressure (like a vice to hold it) and it'll last you as many years again.

I'd wash my cats in the dishwasher if I didn't think they'd object. I put

everything in there, too. <s>

One of my favorite knives I have been putting in there for years. Now I

noticed that the wooden handle is starting to split..

My stainless steel cookwear booklet says that the dishwasher

will corrode the rivets on the handles. Nothing riveted goes in there

anymore. <<

I have never put my cooking knives in the dishwasher - just steak knifes

and knives used for eating. Those come out fine. I wash my chef's knife

by hand (even the one that just broke that had a plastic handle), it has

rivets altho' it has a sturdy handle that does not look like wood - I

don't know what it is but it is a nice knife and it was reasonable in

price.

Also other things i put in the dishwasher - sponges (top rack), any

gadget that is dishwasher safe including parts of the food processor,

the blender parts, things like that. I have never had a problem washing

most of those items in the dishwasher - there are those who hand wash

knives and those who don't. I do.
