Grilled Sweet Potatoes w Sesame Dip Sauce - Barbecue Bible

4 medium sweet potatoes

5 tablespoons soy sauce

5 tablespoons sake

or dry sherry

2 tablespoons sugar

2 green onions,white and green, trimmed -- minced

2 cloves garlic -- minced

2 tablespoons sesame seeds -- toasted

 

Prepare grill for direct grilling over medium high heat. Scrub potatoes

and blot dry with paper towels. Oil grill grate before placing over

coals. Place sweet potatoes on grill and cover.

 

Grill, turning occasionally, until well browned and squeezably soft,

about 30 to 50 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare the dipping sauce.

 

Combine the soy sauce, sake or sherry, sugar, green onions, garlic and

sesame seeds in a small bowl and whisk until blended and sugar is

dissolved.

 

Serve sweet potatoes with small bowls of sauce. Dip them in the sauce to

eat or cut them open and spoon the sauce over them.
