Guest guest
I was surfing this morning and came across this bit of information at: http://users.aol.com/katherinez/kath2.htm When filling prescriptions for your child, be sure the medication contains no dairy products. Your pharmacist may need to call the manufacturer to obtain a list of inactive ingredients. Some common caplet/tablet medications that use lactose as a binder or sweetener include Actifed, Afrin, Allerest, Benadryl, Chlor-Trimeton, Centrum Jr., Drixoral, Slow FE, Tavist-D, Triaminic, and Unicap, Jr. Chewables. There are also several prescription drugs that contain lactose, including Hismanal Tablets, Seldane, Ritalin HCI and Xanax. Jane Zukin has this list and more in " Raising Your Child Without Milk, " pp 229-231. After reading that Donnatol has lactose, I called A.H. Robins and found that this does not include the Donnatol Elixer, which we currently use for reflux. Many of the liquid antibiotics such as amoxicillan have lactose as a binder.
