" FDA issues sprout safety guidelines "

 

NEW YORK, Oct 26 (Reuters Health) -- Continuing outbreaks

of E. coli and Salmonella food poisonings linked to the

consumption of fresh sprouts have caused the US Food and

Drug Administration (FDA) to issue new " sprout safety "

guidelines.

 

The guidelines are " based on sound science ... [and]

represent a major step toward ensuring food safety, "

according to FDA Commissioner Dr. Jane Henney.
