elicits such strong emotions and which has been reported on numerous local

tv stations across the nation.

URGE WORLD CUP SPONSORS TO END SUPPORT OF ANIMAL CRUELTY

What You Can Do:

Letters and emails ARE NEEDED to 2002 World Cup sponsors urging that they

end all financial support of this event until the dog-eating industry is

closed down in Korea.

(WARNING: Graphic description of one dog's death is included in this

information; the specific paragraph is marked " WARNING " so your heart can

prepare itself to be broken as you read on.)

Dog Meat In Korea - Horrifying for the Animals

Each year many dogs in South Korea are slowly beaten to death to " tenderize "

their meat before they are eaten. Why? Because some Korean men believe that

softened dog meat is a sexual aphrodisiac.

These men believe that the softness of the meat is increased if the dog is

forced to release adrenalin by being slaughtered under extreme fear.

While it is illegal to eat dog and cat meat in Korea, the government not

only does not enforce the laws, but you can find a large variety of meals

featuring dog meat in the markets and can even pick your live dog, which

will be tortured and killed and prepared for you in a back room.

This is an eyewitness account from the Korean Animal Protection Society

(KAPS). Once again, I am sorry to have to share it, but we must know the

horror these dogs are facing if we are to help in stopping the practice.

WARNING: " After the dog is hung by its neck it is tenderized by beating it

for up to an hour or more. Bruised and bleeding the dog is then lowered to

the ground and finished off with a blowtorch to remove his or her fur. The

dogs, often still alive, scream and cry in agony and pain, urinating and

defecating while gripped in the throes of unimaginable horror. "

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

The World Cup International football competition is preparing to come to

Korea in 2002. This may be our only opportunity to save the death row dogs

of Korea, when the whole world is watching. Even if you do only one or two

of these things, you will be helping in a significant way. If you do nothing

else, at least forward this information to all your friends in your personal

directory.

1. Sign the on-line petition that can be found on this web site:

2. Email wbutler if you believe you can assist in the signing

of petitions or the distribution of post cards. Also email this address if

you would like sample letters to send to the President South Korea, and the

President FIFA.

3. Send the following e-mail (or similar) to the World Cup Sponsors. This

will take no longer than 5 minutes and can be easily done through the

following e-mail addresses (or through the links to web pages that have been

specifically designed for the acceptance of consumer comments).

Dear Sir/Madam,

Please use your unique position as sponsor of FIFA to apply pressure on

South Korea to stop the barbaric torture and eating of dogs and cats in

violation of its own laws.

Each year many dogs in South Korea are slowly beaten to death to " tenderize "

their meat before they are eaten. They are often finished off by a blowtorch

to remove the fur. Why? Because some Korean men believe that softened dog

meat is a sexual aphrodisiac. These men believe that the softness of the

meat is increased if the dog is forced to release adrenalin by being

slaughtered under extreme fear.

While it is illegal to eat dog & cat meat in Korea, the government not only

does not enforce the laws, but you can find a large variety of meals

featuring dog meat in the markets and can even pick your live dog, which

will be tortured and killed and prepared for you in a back room.

Torturing cats and dogs is not a " cultural matter. " It is the responsibility

of all of us to stop brutality against innocent creatures. We are all

tainted by the cruelty when we turn a blind eye to this savagery. Please do

not encourage South Korea in its torture and killing of these cats and dogs.

It is absolutely imperative the Korea Animal Protection Act be strengthened

and enforced immediately. Please use your influence to change South Korea

and stop these barbaric acts.

You are in a unique position to apply pressure on South Korea to change this

horrible daily torture and murder of companion animals. It does no good for

your image to hold a prestigious world championship in a place such as this.

I for one, will not buy any products made or sold by any of the sponsors of

The World Cup if it is held in South Korea, without these laws being

enforced. I will also inform all that I can of the atrocities condoned by

FIFA and its sponsors, if you do not take a stand on this issue.

4. Send letters to President Kim Dae Jung expressing your disgust and

request that he enforce the South Koreans' own " Animal Protection Act And

Related Law " enacted May 7th, 1991.

President Kim Dae Jung

1 Saejong-ro,

Chongro-ku

Seoul, South Korea 110-760

5. Send letters to the FIFA President requesting that FIFA use their

influence to apply pressure on South Korea to change this horrible daily

torture and murder of companion animals.

President:

Jack A. Warner

725 5th Avenue, 17 floor
