Guest guest
CHANGCHUN, November 22 (Xinhua)-- Hunting of terrestrial wild animals remains to be prohibited in the next five years in Jilin Province in northeast China, according to the Standing Committee of the Jilin Provincial People's Congress. Jilin was the first province in China to initiate a hunting ban between 1996-2000. During the period, many wild animals on the verge of extinction, including the Siberian tiger, appeared again in this inland province. Local government will continue its efforts to keep the wild animal population growing. Apart from the ban on animal hunting in the next five years, Jilin will also develop a wild animal husbandry and breeding industry. There are about 400 species of wild animal living in Jilin Province now, and over 60 species are on the nation's top protection list. The Jilin provincial government has established more than 12, 000 wild animal preserves so far, fostering large numbers of spotted deer, bears, turtledoves and many other species.
