Western countries practice animal cruelty.

Hi All,

Every year many people hope things will be better for the animals

but an improvement in the welfare of the different animal nations seldom

occurs.

The problem seems to be increasing human population growth and

continued meat eating habits as well as destruction of the environment by

humans.

Lack of compassion towards animals by humans continues and there is a false

sense of

compassion to animals prevailing in countries with supposedly modern animal

welfare laws.

People in Western countries like Australia often criticise other

countries about their cruelty to animals yet cruelty to animals in Australia

is common.

Australia has animal welfare laws and fines for cruelty to animals yet

cruelty to animals is legalised in Australia in some of the following ways -

Battery hen farming (hens kept in small cages in dark stinking sheds)

Rodeos (Animals tormented and hurt by humans using tight straps and roping

them

and dragging them to the ground for fun - animals suffer stress, fractures

and internal injuries).

Circuses - animals caged and moved across continents and forced to entertain

humans.

Meat eating - depriving animals of their lives and killing them barbarically

with a method

using captive bolt pistols and throat cutting (some animals try to escape

but they cant and

some animals are processed alive).

Meat eating - baby animals and pregnant animals sent to slaughter (new born

animals left to die

or trampled to death on the trucks - " What is your problem " says the truck

driver, " They're all going to

die anyway. " )

Killing native animals for their flesh (possums dragged from the bush and

left caged for days - they

dont even stun them properly - poor little possums processed alive).

Killing native animals by removing their habitat to make more grazing land

or suburban sprawl

Milk production - calves are killed so people can drink the milk meant for

the calves

Pet production - animals are used as breeding machines and sold in pet

shops.

Fishing - humans show off the biggest fish they managed to kill all in the

name of recreation

Boiling crayfish and prawns alive -a barbaric and widespread practise

ignoring the fact that

crayfish and crustacea have central nervous systems and feel pain

Animal experimentation - cruel and barabaric use of animals in medical

research and cosmetic testing

Tail docking of dogs - puppies scream as their tails are cut off ;people

think dogs look nicer with no tails.

Xenotransplantation research - killing animals for their organs .

Killing of thousands of unwanted pet animals (bodies buried at the tip or

burned/incinerated by welfarists)

Shooting and poisoning of foreign introduced animals and unwanted native

animals

Zoos - Imprisonment of animals in Zoos and false claims that captive

breeding will return species to the wild

(no-one seems to realise " the wild " is being destroyed and pillaged by

humans - there will be no safe place

to return such animals to except for reserves and sanctuaries where life

will not be the same for many animals.)

Baiting and killing of thousands of introduced wild animals so a handful of

native animals may be

returned to the bush that bears little resembance to the bush of a hundred

years ago.

Horse racing and the killing of horses unsuitable for the racing industry

Intensive farming of meat animals - pigs and other animals kept in concrete

and tin sheds so they never live a natural life - hidden cruelty.

Live sheep, cattle and animal trade - animals transported to other countries

on ships in appalling conditions to face ritual slaughter after weeks at

sea.

Despite the acceptance of institutionalised cruelty and environmental

destruction, many humans seem less happy as the wilderness and wildlife

declines around them.

I heard a spokesman for an alliance of medical practioners in the Eastern

States of Australia speaking on the radio recently.

He implied that people seemed less happy and more inclined to feel

unwell when the environment declined around them.

Doctors in the Eastern States of Australia formed a group to help campaign

to save old growth forests.

Their hope is that more people will take notice of them because they are

doctors.

Lets hope for improvement in the coming year.

Lets hope many people around the world will become so

fearful of mad cow disease and other animal to human diseases they will turn

vegan.

Lets hope for more mainstream healthy vegetarian fast food takeaways to

rival the burger outlets

or that burger outlers start selling more veg food.

Finally, lets hope that human population numbers decline and while this

seems

unlikely as a matter of choice by humans, it may be that nature reduces the

human

herd through disease and natural disasters.

The longevity of individual human life has increased around the world but

many

future environments will be spoiled judging from the speed of present

environmental degradation.

I wonder what the world will be like in the future for those humans who will

have all the benefits

of modern technology but who will also have a world decimated of

irreplacable natural

wonders because of human exploitation and greed.

Cheers,

Marguerite
