Guest guest
" emb09 " <emb09 Mon, 11 Dec 2000 10:59:43 -0800 My dear friend, Datong Mine Bureau has never run a dog slaughterhouse. It indeed operates a breeding center with the purpose of producing house pets and sheepdogs. Always attaching great importance to animal protection, the Chinese government has strictly observed the international instruments relating to the protection of endangered species. China has laws forbidding the poaching, trade and consumption of protected animals whose list has grown longer with each passing day. Such animals as frogs, calamander and sea turtles have since been added to the list. Thanks to publicity campaign, more people have realized the importance of animal protection. Cats, dogs and other household pets, though not protected animals, are cared for and protected by people. There are pets clinics in large cities. Dietary habits vary from place to place. Such traditional diversity is natural and should be respected. Eating dog meat, though not a nationwide phenomenon, has had a long history in China. There is not yet a popular consensus to outlaw it. However, to prevent displeasure and even outrage by some citizens, administrative regulations are adopted to restrict public slaughter of dogs. More stringent measures are to be taken to regulate the activities in this regard. Sincerely, the webeditor ------------Original Message---- webmaster Fri, 1 Dec 2000 01:12:39 -0800 (PST) Ambassador Li Zhaoxing: I am writing in reference to the recently opened large-scale Saint Bernard breeding operation in the Datong Mining Bureau, west of Beijing, in order to mass produce dogs for human consumption. There are also reported plans to open the country's first dog slaughterhouse in the near future. Please help prevent China from becoming one of the first to force dogs into the nightmarish system of factory farming by urging your government to shut down the Datong breeding center and prohibit future plans to open a dog slaughterhouse. Until this breeding operation is permanently stopped I will boycott all products from China, as well as boycott tourism of China. I will also encourage as many people as I can to do the same. Thank you for your time and consideration. Thousands of Stores. Millions of Products. /
